Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 26, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted June 26, 2019 It's just classic England. I thought they would kack their trousers in the semifinals and I don't think we'll even get to do that.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 27, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted June 27, 2019 Marcus Trescothick calling it a day at the end of the year. Favourite ever cricketer and possibly overall sportsperson. Great player, great bloke and his work in making mental health issues in sport acceptable really has been trailblazing. He stated playing for Somerset in 1992!
Moderators PowerButchi Posted June 27, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2019 His book Coming Back To Me is a compulsory read for any sports fan. A marvellous servant to the game, wonderful attacking batsman, one of my favourite players.
Guy Bifkin
He'd certainly be in the conversation to open were I ever to draw up a greatest England XI in my lifetime.

Moderators PowerButchi Posted June 27, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 27, 2019 That is tough. Even from when I started watching cricket in 1990Â I've 7 or 8 openers to choose from. Â So Mark Lathwell and Darren Maddy it is.
Loki
Atherton and Cook with Boycott on standby. Â I expect no runs scored on Day 1. Edited June 28, 2019 by Loki
Paid Members Teedy Kay Posted June 28, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2019 Atherton and Cook for me too, with Gooch coming in at 3.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted June 28, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2019 (edited) Tres and Cook for me. Although I would absolutely pick Boycott ahead of the former had I been around when he played. Trescothick and Cook would have a great partnership, aggression and watchfullness in tandem. Only issue is that it's lefty lefty, then again, so was Strauss. Edited June 28, 2019 by Gus Mears
Guy Bifkin
The correct answer is Boycott x 2.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted June 28, 2019 Moderators Share Posted June 28, 2019 The answer is Gooch and Cook. I think. Or Gooch and Tresco.

Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted June 28, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted June 28, 2019 If we are doing this then let's do it. Gooch Cook Vaughn Root Gower Botham Knott Emburey Broad Willis Anderson. I'm leaving Boycott and KP out on the grounds of team harmony. It was also a toss up to leave Vaughn out and go Gower at 3 and Gatting at 5.

I'm not a huge fan of the man or his character but could you make a case for Swann for Emburey? In an era where England can field a decent XI of wicketkeeper batsmen, can we afford to play someone who is just primarily a great keeper in Knott or can we forgive Jos Buttler's lack of basic keeping fundamentals in favour of his big hitting funky spastic style? One thing is for sure is that Stuart Broad should keep a cautious eye on young funk soul brother number one Joffrey Archer.
