Paid Members Monkee Posted Tuesday at 09:18 PM Paid Members Posted Tuesday at 09:18 PM (edited) This is brilliant. I’d totally forgotten about this and can’t remember most of my answers but I do spit a few when there’s only 1 vote next to it. I do have a question though… Who met Cliff Richard? Edited Tuesday at 09:19 PM by Monkee Acknowledging the typo but leaving it there. Good moaning. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted Wednesday at 01:53 PM Paid Members Posted Wednesday at 01:53 PM I can't help but notice that God Only Knows by the Beach Boys is on that favourite songs list twice, but presumably hasn't been picked up on because of the different formatting of the way it was answered? King Coconut Posted Wednesday at 02:09 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:09 PM Are you implying that the census results are unreliable? Quote
Mr_Danger Posted Wednesday at 02:45 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:45 PM Clearly Frankie has gone all Dems 2020 with the results as to put Bruce on top. We all just have to trust that he knows best as we are all too lazy to do otherwise. Quote

Mr_Danger Posted Wednesday at 04:06 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:06 PM So did all the lunch nonces call the women who served them their mid day meals in school lunch ladies? Was the laughter lost when watching the strangely revered Victoria Wood sitcom Dinner Ladies because of the confusion of the name? Are you all posh? Quote

Paid Members JLM Posted Wednesday at 04:50 PM Paid Members Posted Wednesday at 04:50 PM Breakfast lunch and dinner for me. Spent many years in different parts of the North west but never adopted “tea” for the evening meal either. Lunch ladies sounds far too American. I guess I square away school dinner/dinner ladies in my head because they serve dinner-esque hot meals despite it being lunch time. Just a grotesquely dull paragraph there. I will add that the under appreciated sitcom Girls5Eva has a male school cafeteria worker who refers to himself as a Lunch Lord and I love that very much. Quote

Its a disgrace that Beetlebum is top and has 2 votes because when you read through it God Only Knows is actually voted for 3 times. If I've got anything wrong then let me know. Thanks for paying attention Carol Voldermort. Quote
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM Author Awards Moderator Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM Right, I’ve done a tidy up. Not much has changed unless you care about Volkswagens or Breaking Bad, and the Beach Boys nonces can calm down now. Quote

Abe_Knuckleball_Schwartz Posted Thursday at 05:22 PM Posted Thursday at 05:22 PM I was trying to remember if I did this at the time and looking at the results, yes, I did. Interesting to see all the stats Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted Friday at 10:17 AM Paid Members Posted Friday at 10:17 AM I grew up with breakfast, dinner and tea. The posher families I knew might say "supper". Not long after we moved to Jersey, I was round a mate's house for the day, and as evening started drawing in, some of the other kids there started to talk about how they would have to call their parents to get picked up. I said, "oh yeah, I hadn't even told my parents I'd be having dinner here", and someone asked, "are you?". And I was so confused - we had already had dinner, but they were talking about it as something in the future tense. That's when I realised that there were people who called the midday meal "dinner". So these days I tend to be breakfast, lunch, tea. I could easily adapt to lunch as the midday meal, but I'd never be comfortable calling the evening meal "dinner". The boring etymology part of it all is that "dinner" historically meant the largest meal of the day, rather than a meal at a specific time; if you worked on a farm, you'd be getting up at first light to make the most of the daylight, so you'd need something big to eat by midday. Chances are you lived on or close to the land you were working on, so you could return home for a big cooked dinner. But historically if you've got a middle class job, chances are you live further away from your work, so you grab a small lunch during the day, and the big cooked dinner is pushed back to the evening when you get home. "Lunch" becomes more widespread as industrialisation means more people are working further from their home, and having to grab food on the go, and "lunch" becomes something more related to work - so even if you call the meal dinner, you'd still take a lunch break rather than a dinner break.
