Paid Members tiger_rick Posted February 11 Paid Members Posted February 11 A thread to discuss wrestling games that aren't WWE's annual offering or AEW Fight Forever that have their own thread. Was watching a video about Pro-Wrestler Story on the Switch. A beautiful looking game with retro styling that is about creating your own wrestling team, effectively the WWE performance centre. Anyone play this? I might pick it up, it looks great. Add any other recommendations or memories. Quote
NeverYield Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I haven't played this game but I think this was covered in the Inside the Ropes magazine a couple of issues back and was highly rated. They have a section each issue where they review games like this. Quote
RedTwoster Posted February 11 Posted February 11 I’ve not played it, but it’s by Kairosoft whose games tend to follow a similar format - their first big release was Game Dev Story which was excellent, and the follow-ups were generally evolutions of the same idea but with different settings, like a TV studio, for example. The games I’ve played of theirs have all been good fun - not deep or difficult, but fun. So it wouldn’t surprise me if this was an enjoyable take on wrestling, albeit one that follows a well-established formula. Quote
Vegeta Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Anyone played the fire pro dlc promoter mode? Wondering if it's worth getting tbe game for that dlc? Quote

WyattSheepMask Posted February 12 Posted February 12 (edited) I remember having Power Move Pro Wrestling for the PlayStation. It was a reskin of New Japan’s ‘Toukon Retsuden’ game. The move sets remained in place but the real replaced with characters such as Malibu Mike, Area 51 and The Egyptian. Very slow and plodding by today’s standards of course, but I absolutely loved it at the time. the only real annoyance I had was that your opponent would submit after a specific amount of damage, but as that wasn’t displayed anywhere, they’d sometimes submit to a chinlock. As far as I know, it was the only non WWF game on the system at the time as WCW vs The World (another reskinned game, this time ‘Virtural Pro Wrestling’) was still a year away Edited February 12 by WyattSheepMask Quote

After a quick go turning into last thing I did at night and first thing in the morning... Yeah, that's fun. Thanks for the heads-up. Quote

My lad has it and I play it occasionally with him. Latest update had Macho Man in it so that's a huge win. Hoping more old wrestlers like that get added. Quote

Yeah I would think so. WCW vs The World was put in 96 and WWF Warzone didn’t come out until 98 if memory serves me right Quote

I think I've mentioned it before but I used to drag my Dad round the gaming exhibitions at Olympia/Earls Court and I got it from there. I remember it being really fun, and full of mad characters. theringmaster Posted February 12 Posted February 12 I was obsessed with Power move pro wrestling on the psx, Japanese wrestling was only really seen in magazines in the 90s (at least in my world anyway) so this game felt like i was accessing a whole new world of wrestling. Agreed it's not aged greatly (i gave it a spin during lockdown) but still very fond memories. Saturday Night Slam Masters is the best original pro wrestling game imo, it's essentially a Pro Wrestling version of Street Fighter 2. Guacamelee! for xbox is another little gem, its a scrolling beat em up but its based on Lucha Libre, it;'s the closest thing to a wrestling game without being a wrestling game Quote
FUM Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Always liked Legends of Wrestling way more than the reviews of it warranted. Potentially because of my age at the time but it had a cracking roster for someone interested in wrestling history. Quote
