Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted September 6 Author Paid Members Posted September 6 Finally got round to watching the Amy Gledhill in her cavewoman outfit series and very much enjoyed the first three episodes. They're all really good. But I think the current series is the first one where I'm actively not looking forward to watching it. Ayaode and Lucas? Fuck right off. Quote

Yeah I absolutely loved that series. They all seemed to gel perfectly and were all so enjoyable to watch. A great bunch of lads and lasses. Not thoroughly convinced by episode 1 this week. The overall vibe is a bit weird and feels like too many of them trying to get themselves over like Phil Ellis and his cohort. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 7 Paid Members Posted September 7 The last series was great because it's the most it's felt like all of the contestants were just having a great time together, and that enthusiasm really shone through, as well as moments of contestants being individually brilliant. I'm not keen on this series so far; Matt Lucas (presumably not joking) claiming to have never seen the show before doesn't bode well, and Ayaode even if he weren't a big old Graham Linehan superfan is just going to be unbearable keeping his schtick up for the entire series and (if the first episode was anything to go by) not putting any real effort in. Luckily Chloe Petts is brilliant; I've seen her MC a few comedy shows where she's been fantastic, so I'm glad to see her coming across well so far. Isy Suttie is promising as the potential chaotic element, and Nina Conti was a lot better than I expected - I tend to find her ventriloquist act a bit cringeworthy, and was dreading her showing up with the monkey puppet, but she was pretty good just being funny on her own. DavidB6937 Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Chloe was amazing when I went to the taping. Genuinely the best by far. In fact all the women were. They all seemed to be having a great time. Richard and Matt were pretty much exactly how you'd expect. If you don't like them already they're not getting any new fans out of it, while I think all the women will definitely come out of the series with a whole new fanbase. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted September 7 Paid Members Posted September 7 I'm not a big fan of the show in general, but Richard Ayoade being on this sounds absolutely dreadful. From the episodes I have seen, it works best when the contestants really throw themselves into the format and as such either allow themselves to get sent up, or triumph with some outside the box thinking. Ayoade doing his 'I don't want to be here and am above this nonsense' act just sounds like it won't work at all. Quote

Oh god I thought I knew her. She was in some film last year doing the monkey puppet thing and it was amazingly unfunny. I might skip this one then. Quote
Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted September 7 Paid Members Posted September 7 (edited) It was, for me, the worst first episode of any series. Lucas and Ayoade were pretty bad, and Conti wasnt a whole lot better. The other two ladies were great though. Edited September 7 by ReturnOfTheMack Spelling Quote
Paid Members Chris B Posted September 7 Paid Members Posted September 7 It's a frustrating one. Taskmaster has become a safe comfort watch for me and my partner, and there are precious few things that she finds to be that. Ayoade, in particular, is an uncomfortable presence for both of us on the show, and this is the first season in many years where we haven't watched the first episode immediately. I'm comfortably up for skipping the season, but I'm worried that'll effectively become giving up on the show altogether. Quote

Dai Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The new series has been perfectly acceptable so far. Chloe is still the best by a mile. The new season of the New Zealand one has started too, and has Rose Matafeo on it, which is fab as she was always great value on the UK one. Has a better Taskmaster too, as I think Greg has completely checked out of it now. Quote
