Okada, meanwhile, completely sees through Don but is happy to use him to further his own career, and Don probably recognises that too but is willing to turn a blind eye to it for the kudos of having Okada in his stable. With both Takeshita and Fletcher, there's an element of trading in his previous clients for a younger model - Takeshita is "The Alpha" because he was supposed to be the guy to replace Kenny Omega, and Kyle Fletcher is Don's replacement for Will Ospreay - that I think they should make more of a point of. Excellent points and absolutely should be key parts of this story. Additionally I'd like if they played into it as Callis starting a war with the Deathriders solely to unite the crumbling Family against a common enemy. Callis also has character motivation for taking down the Deathriders: - prove who the real top faction in the company is. - Mox ruined his goal of a Family member winning the Continental Classic. - Callis has a large permanent scar on his head because of Mox. This should be played up way more than it is! On the Deathriders side there's the inevitable turn on Mox looming and this feud could be the catalyst for that. Deathriders turning tweener against Callis being led by babyface Mox for a few months before they stab him in the back is the way to go. There's also an endless number of great TV matches they can run between the two groups before doing a big gimmick match with everyone at Revolution as the blow off. If they put the work and play up every angle, story strand and character involved this could be a brilliant feud. But with the current booking my expectations are low, sadly. Yeah it's complex, it shouldn't be, but it is, we'll all continue to watch because we're pathetically addicted to it and much like our judgment of what musicians or actors we watch, we'll be selective about who we judge more for who did what etc (though in some cases that's correct). Great episode I thought, the street fight in particular I enjoyed. Mostly for Lance Archer casually twatting Yuta with a bin lid. But its astounding how The Death Riders managed to outnumber the Callis Family, given the Family are the biggest faction since WW1. Quote

Paid Members BomberPat Posted January 22 Paid Members Posted January 22 I found that show incredibly frustrating, and mostly down to the Death Riders. Jon Moxley is basically an out-and-out babyface now, but he's still teaming with the heel Death Riders. Against the Don Callis Family, the Death Riders become de facto babyfaces, putting their match in the bizarre position of being structured around Wheeler Yuta doing babyface comeback spots. Despite there being a hundred people in the Don Callis Family, and the Death Riders being de facto babyfaces, it's the Death Riders - the babyface team - who rely on outside interference to win the match. One of the people interfering in that match was Marina Shafir, who then interferes in the women's tag team match as a heel later on in the same show. Another person interfering was Claudio, who we got a video package about him defending the CMLL Title against Roderick Strong as a heel on a future show. The third interferer, PAC, was a heartless dastardly villain last week, yet now is doing a babyface save spot while on crutches. The babyface who took him out, with the express intent of putting PAC on the shelf and putting the Death Riders behind him, isn't even on the show. On top of that, the Don Callis Family have a tag team challenging FTR next week, despite both teams being unequivocally heels. Wrestling doesn't always have to be goodies and baddies, but it helps when it is. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted January 22 Paid Members Posted January 22 Can't disagree with any of the above. The booking is very wonky at the moment. What feels like the new norm is that I enjoyed the show in isolation while also completely despairing of the long term direction of the company. Shibata interfered so much in Joe/Speedball it was almost like two matches going on at once. Bonkers! The match didn't even need it - it worked best when they were just knocking the shit out of each other. The street fight was enjoyable and a great showcase for Lance Archer. He looked the dogs bollocks in this and the whole thing was structured around him kicking ass. Very weird that they did that considering Archer has been a forgettable background character for almost a year now but I very much enjoyed the action in the moment. Omega/Alexander was fantastic. Omega looked in great form. His injuries look like they've slowed him down a bit and he focuses much more on selling (particularly his stomach) and his matches work much better for it. His Takeshita and Okada matches being based around Omega being fucked and fighting through his pain rather than endless moves does wonders for him. Hope he can stay healthy and delivering at this level - working smarter, not harder - because AEW with Kenny in it is always better than AEW without him. Quote
