At what point is it actively tampering vs just being aware of a contractual situation? I don't really know the ins and outs of it. Obviously we've had plenty of jumping between companies over the years. If someone's coming up to the end of their contract, what discussions are legally allowed? Any?

A couple of things here. Firstly there was already a working agreement between the two companies which would make things easier. But Will also told New Japan he wanted to explore other options and they gave him their blessing to do so. This was talked about at the time. Which is not the same as this.

Fair enough on the working arrangement but the Lucha Bros have told TK that they will be exploring other options so it sounds the same to me. Tony has made them an offer they've said no, he's added on the injury time to stop them signing for WWE. Fenix has a year of injuries and Penta has 2 months, it just means Penta isn't getting paid for 10 months. He'll probably do some indy dates to keep in shape while he waits for Fenix. Then they'll sign. This is not exactly the cuddly image that TK tries to present AEW as compared to the Big Bad WWE, its beginning to look a bit ATM Eric where he's got people under contract sat at home doing nothing who don't want to be there.

One of the reasons this came out months ago is because Penta was telling everyone he was leaving and the storyline plans for them. While thats what they boys were being told, they were still in discussions for a new deal with AEW and part of booking plans. Gossip leaks like a sieve. Lucha Bros disappear from All In plans and talk about injury time being added.

Maybe if they had been direct things would have played out differently. As there have been examples of people being freed up even when it was known they were going to WWE.

Of course they were. TK was always going to make them an offer no matter what they said. They'd be stupid not to listen to all offers in case they were offered something ridiculously good. I don't know how the Lucha Bros handled it but look at what Ospreay did. Took on Barry Bloom as his agent and all the offers went through him. I hope the LB's did something similar.

Honestly I don't think Penta helped himself by not shutting up about it. It's extremely shit generally to be honest and I wouldn't do it, but I'm not a billionaire and my brain isn't wired that way either. But if Tony Khan is going to be slated for being more pleasant than how WWE do things, sod that too, he can't be all Don Owen while they play their usual tricks but everyone just expects and accepts that because they're thing. It's two bastards in a carny industry against each other. We also don't entirely know the entire in and out of this.

And the moral of all this is don't go blabbing shit to Konnan either, man's a gobshite, o la ley.

This seems to have caused the issue. Reports a few weeks back were that AEW were fine with Fenix leaving and weren't going to tack on the injury time but Penta and Konnan bragging about them going to feud with Cody for the Universal title, merch already being made and seemingly revealing that they were in negotiations with WWE months ago (before AEW made them an offer and before they were legally allowed to be approached by WWE) seems to have pissed AEW off hence them now putting in the extension.

@LaGooshthats the crux of it. But it seems Tony Khan can’t win. He plays nice, like with Jade and Cody and he’s not a serious enough boss. But puts his foot down when talent are trying to be deceitful and he’s a bad boss. And let’s not forget if the report is correct, WWE now have a lot of merch they won’t be able to sell for another year or so which is the funniest thing.

I feel sorry for Fenix, not just because he’s being held back, but it seemed he was quite happy to stay and it was Penta who wanted to leave and he felt obliged to leave with him.

I should also add the 'stories' so I can't confirm, but Penta got all Miro Mascaras about jobbing on his way out even though he had a few months left on his deal. By contrast, Jade Cargill, who barely has her beak wet in the industry handled it way better, put over Kris Statlander twice on the way out on PPV/TV AND didn't go to the sheets about her WWE contract and be a big bragger Billy about it.

That's not the accusation though is it. The accusation is that when AEW was set up TK was clearly trying to portray the whole set up to  be morally superior to WWE because they treat the guys better, yet when it comes down to it they do exactly the same things. Not just in this case, but in other things as well. Nothing to do with seriousness.

Chili is right though, don't talk to Konnan. I've actually taken that one step further, I don't listen to him either.

Seems they were trying to have their cake and eat it. People forget it was only the end of July they were able to get back into CMLL after AEW smoothed the way back finally and the plan was for winning the Trios titles at All In.

Yet Penta was telling people he was gone at the end of August.

What's become apparent is they didn't get a proper agent and still have old school carny Konnan in their ear handling their business.

There is no way I can type this without sounding a bit dodge, but is it not the usual for their to be a bit of bullshit with mexican wrestlers and the way they leave promotions over there because seemingly fucking about, being blacklisted and then welcomed back seems to be completely normal over there and I'm not entirely educated on it. Very smoothing egos and making money type things.

Essentially if you’re @Hannibal Scorch anything AEW does is fine but if WWE does it it’s bad. Would save a lot of time with these debates.

I mean we know he's very pro AEW and anti WWE but we also know WWE do a lot of fucked up things too. So both are possible.

The wrestling business gets everyone eventually. No matter how nice you are or how many good intentions you have, the business will make you the same as those you seek to differ yourself from.

If you have no plans for someone, let them go if they want to go. Why keep paying them just to spite the competition? You don't want them, so you are just wasting money keeping them. It seems daft to me but, hey, that's the wrestling business.
