In a high-scoring round, we again had a case of somebody making a wrong D2D bet then doing well regardless. This time it was Stinky Dad whose energy drink-fuelled side let him down thanks to a stalemate in Carinthia, yet he still managed a cool dozen points from the remaining outcomes. Only three people nabbed bonus points from that, including me wrongly opting for an easy home win. The only other bonuses went to Chutney Spoon despite a full house for the right result in the randomly "wildcard" match #3, Wigan vs Fulham, since he was the sole participant to get the scoreline spot on. Unsurprisingly then, he was also top scorer for the week with Bent Wookie taking the wooden spoon. Defending champion Rory is now five points adrift at the foot of the standings, while TildeGuy increases his lead over ultimo for the first time in a while, albeit by just one point to extend his advantage to four. Elsewhere, progress for Ipswich and Bournemouth's men plus Man Utd and Chelsea's women generally proved fruitful. An eventual victory for Liverpool's women was much closer than expected so mostly good for one-pointers – so no rugby score at Rugby.* Later the same day the same club's blokes failed to heed the warning about fielding a weakened team at Home Park. No quadruple then. Slot out! A score draw in Paisley at the unimaginatively named St Mirren Park (I preferred when their ground was named after a Channel 5 Thursday night show) was a dud among non-Scots guessers, but the same score at the Bernabéu yielded more points, as did an expected success for Barça in Seville. Why so many D2Ds in a row? Aren't they meant to be every other week, I hear you ask? All being well, there'll have been 19 in 40 matchweeks by the end of the season. But in the final two months we've got the FPL Cup knockout phase, the Easter double and the bumper last-day gimmick so there's only gonna be room for two or three of them. Best to squeeze in as many as we can before the next international break, I reckon.
