Fog Dude Posted December 18, 2024 Author Posted December 18, 2024 The results of both the actual football matches and the FPL Cup ties went into the original post on Sunday night, with all three tables being updated soon after that. The top 4 in Group A plus the top 3 in Group B are all definitely through to the quarter-finals, but nobody's definitely out yet. The continued absence of Gooner has complicated things – he's technically qualified because Bent Wookie sat out this round too but if he drops out completely then I've got a back-up plan to decide who's the remaining person into the last 8. Special mention to Chutney Spoon for a 100% record in the pool phase as well, although Rory scored far more across the 5 matchdays and has a bigger points difference. In the main competition, top scorer Vegeta is either a dozen points clear of the wooden spoon spot or still four points adrift, depending on whether our resident Arsenal fan carries on. Leader Tilde was joint worst performer this time out and yet persists with a whopping 19-point advantage. In a low-scoring round, nobody got the exact score from the randomly selected 'wildcard' fixture at St James's but five players did at least correctly foresee a home win to claim a bonus point each. The rest overestimated the Van Nistelrooy effect, clearly. Elsewhere, only victories for Forest and Leverkusen proved anything close to fruitful. Draws at The Emirates and Anfield, away success for Ipswich and Palace, a reverse for Bayern and a late comeback by Manchester United in the derby caught most participants out. Add to that a frantic showpiece occasion north of the border going the full distance and you've suddenly got the recipe for yet another dud. Bit of housekeeping: I'm going to aim to do the next write-up this Sunday, then we're going to sit out the Boxing Day programme for once then make up for it with a triple round so the next round-up blurb after that will be on the 8th of January. Due to the new European club calendar, we've now got staggered Cup bonanzas so the next normal round following this weekend is set to be Week 23 at the end of next month. In the meantime, the next set of 10 including the final "first go" D2D should be up in the initial post shortly. Quote

Ha, Tottenham would be ecstatic to have a 100% record in the Europa League! If you're wondering where the FPL Cup quarter-final draw is, I'm waiting to see how many people are carrying on first. We've got plenty of time since they don't take place till March anyhow. But for now, here are my picks: Premier League Brentford 3-2 Nottingham Forest Ipswich Town 1-1 Newcastle United Crystal Palace 2-1 Arsenal Everton 0-1 Chelsea Spurs 2-2 Liverpool National League North Kidderminster Harriers 0-3 Southport w/Stinky French Cup Round 9 Bordeaux 1-3 Rennes Saint-Étienne 1-2 Olympique de Marseille Lens 0-2 Paris Saint-Germain Eredivisie PSV Eindhoven 1-0 Feijenoord Quote

Fog Dude Posted December 23, 2024 Author Posted December 23, 2024 The final scores just about went into the opening post while it was still Sunday night, and cheekily the next lot of matches are already there too. The updated table should appear there at some point over the festive period too. Details of what's happening with the FPL Cup will follow once we know the fate of Bent Wookie who missed a second week on the bounce at this busy but cold time of the year. Gooner, meanwhile, has sat out 3 in a row so is definitely gone. His average for the dozen rounds he did play was 8.42 which might well compare favourably with the leading pack come the end of the season. "Gooner removed" was incidentally also the reason given when I was kicked out of two Discord servers earlier this year and I'm not even an Arsenal fan! Anyway, moving on... Stinky got his D2D bet right by, unusually, opting for his chosen team to lose. Only two people incorrectly disagreed with him though. That match produced the only two three-pointers of the entire round, while Stinky's bonuses were only enough to make him joint best performer since nobody made it into double figures at all this time out. It does also move him up a place though, which is this week's only movement not related to absences. Tilde has his lead cut to a still healthy 14 points, while Vegeta is either three or six points adrift now, depending on whether or not Bent Wookie carries on. The randomly selected "wildcard" fixture was Lens v PSG but that went to a draw in a knockout game which meant a dud outcome, so no extra bonus points for anyone even in the spirit of seasonal generosity – bah humbug! Elsewhere, wins for Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool, Marseille and PSV were generally good for one-pointers, whereas comfortable away victories for Forest and Rennes caught most people out, with the stalemate at a wet and windy Goodison Park turning out to produce more of a mixed bag. Like I said, the treble card's already up and you've got a week to make your picks. You can all relax on Boxing Day instead or if you're like me, be roped into board & card games and hard liquor with the extended family. Can't exactly use my aunt's coffee table as a desk which is why I'm making this update now, 10 hours before hopping on a train back down to the Westcountry. The triple round allows you all to forget about this for a while once you've done your guesses, and I should be back in my own place long before the next write-up is due. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and thanks again to all for playing! ? Quote
