Fog Dude Posted January 15, 2025 Author Posted January 15, 2025 The results only went into the opening post last night because we had to wait for the delayed outcome in the Leyton Orient-Derby County tie... which helped only Stinky Dad. We also lost two women's matches to the weather – postponed games involving Championship are being completed this midweek, but the WSL might as well rename itself the Ivory Tower League because prioritising FA Cup ties is apparently too good for them. Both have been rearranged for the end of the month (and one only confirmed that date today) so all picks for them are unfortunately void. So, with that out of the way, it was unsurprisingly a low-scoring round with just eight valid final scores. Tilde's lead over ultimo is now down into mere single figures with top scorer MVP RULZ closing in. He beat joint worst performer Bent Wookie in the Cup play-off round, but it's the other lowest scorer Chutney Spoon who's now a sole point ahead of Vegeta at the foot of the table. What made the difference for MVP RULZ was wildcard bonus points. For the first time ever, I had to do a re-draw. The randomiser initially came up with match #7, Everton v Spurs women, but when that needed to be thrown out due to freezing conditions, it gave me match #3 at the second time of asking, Reading v Burnley and most participants got the outcome right but only one managed to get the scoreline spot on. Extra time at The Lamb Ground also spared a lot of people's blushes, but a shootout at The Emirates proved less fruitful. Wins on the road for Brighton's men and Sunderland Ladies were generally good for one-pointers, but a mild upset at St James' Park and a big home reverse for Anderlecht in league action meant a mixed bag of guesses at best. In the FPL Cup, we now have our quarter-final line-up complete. Because we've ended up with a lop-sided draw of 5 players from Group A and just 3 from Group B, two people who already faced each other in the pool phase will have to meet again: TildeGuy~! vs. Vegeta RoryFice vs. Stinky Dad Fog Dude vs. ultimo the great MVP RULZ vs. Tim Healy's Chutney Spoon Ties to be played in Week 31, 22nd-24th March. No D2D or wildcard game next, since it's a "mini-bumper" or "1.5x" round. We might have to do another one for the next round of the English Cups but it depends how the TV picks fall. That slightly expanded card should appear at the top of the thread in a jiffy. Quote

At the other end, leader Tilde is the worst performer albeit on a still very respectable 8 points, allowing nearest challenger ultimo to narrow his advantage to half a dozen. No D2D or wildcard this time, so let's get straight on with which matches were helpful or otherwise: Wins for Liverpool, Fulham, St Mirren, Celtic and Lazio all mostly yielded a lot of points. Comfortable victories for Man City and Ayr were more one-sided than expected but generally good for one-pointers. Out-of-form Aberdeen avoiding a shock down the road at Elgin caught a few players out, while Villa's comeback to take a score draw from The Emirates produced more of a mixed bag of guesses. Triumphs for Palace, Everton, Juve and Napoli plus Cup progress for St Johnstone and Dundee against fellow top-flight opposition were also not universally foreseen. Back to just the usual 10 games this coming weekend, as we at last get on with the second go-around of people's D2D turns. That'll be up in the initial post shortly. Quote
