Fog Dude Posted November 6, 2024 Author Posted November 6, 2024 The results went into the initial post on Monday from the actual middle of the ocean, and an attempt to update the table at the earliest opportunity after that was messed up but look out for it soon. A week ago the scale of the devastation caused by severe flooding in Spain wasn't yet clear to me. Even so I probably shouldn't have included any games from there even though the match in the Basque Country did go ahead in the end. I also have to hold my hands up about FA Cup replays being abolished for Rounds 1 & 2. Third round replay night is now the final matchday of the Champions League (which I'm intrigued about this season, for the novelty) so I knew those were gone but all six qualifying rounds had replays these past few months so I'm not sure why they've been scrapped for the first two rounds of the competition proper. Oh well, we'll know better for the second round if there's even a tie worth featuring. Anyway, Chutney Spoon unusually bet against his chosen side, seemingly forgetting that The Ravens are a division above their hosts at Spotland these days. Only three other people remembered who the underdogs were to claim their bonus points from the seven-goal thriller. The only other bonuses went to TildeGuy, who was the only person who got Rangers' comeback victory against Motherwell spot on. Most people got the right outcome there but without the exact scoreline, which proved costly as #7 was the randomly selected 'wildcard' fixture (Valencia-Real Madrid obviously became ineligible for that as soon as it was called off). He now leads by 16 points over ultimo, while weekly worst performer Bent Wookie slips to fourth spot. At the foot of the standings Stinky once again moves a point further clear of Vegeta, back into a double-digit cushion but overall it was another very low-scoring round. The scale of Celtic's triumph caught everyone out, while the shock at St Helens would've been a dud were it not for Rory refusing the back any favourites. Wins for the similar trio of Spurs, Ajax and Accrington Stanley were generally good for at least one-pointers, alongside score draws at Old Trafford and the San Mamés. A more traditional card than we've had lately, including eight EPL, two from the continent and another D2D should appear in the opening post in just a tick. Quote

Fog Dude Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 The final scores were put in the original post on Sunday night, and the table was recalculated straight away after that. Quite a lot of movement despite more scoring that was a little on the low side. Gooner got his D2D bet wrong as Arsenal couldn't hold onto their lead at Stamford Bridge and six of nine other participants disagreed with him to claim their bonus points – including those of us who incorrectly plumped for a home win. As is traditional, that also made him the week's worst performer but Rory (whom I keep forgetting is technically the reigning, defending champion) and ultimo only did slightly better. The former slumps to second last place while the latter loses ground on runaway leader TildeGuy. Strong rounds for MVP RULZ and Stinky Dad sees them into double figures as both climb the standings. However, it was Chutney Spoon who nabbed the only other bonuses awarded this time out by getting the scoreline spot on from The City Ground, since the randomly selected 'wildcard' match turned out to be #7, Forest's reverse as they got carried away with their own recent form and forgot how to set up wisely against The Toon. Elsewhere victories for Brentford, Fulham, Wolves and Liverpool generally proved fruitful alongside a stalemate at The Olympic Stadium. A further loss for Man City caught some people out, whilst the two results on the continent would've been better off the other way around. Incidentally as I type from a hotel in Spain, on regional telly in the background Extremadura are hosting Compostela in some kind of secondary cup competition. Before I had Sky I'm sure I remember that as a top-flight fixture at some point on Sgorio in the mid-to-late 90s. Speaking of cup competitions, it's the first visit of the season to La Coupe next, plus ours will be back at the end of the month during the women's international break. Don't fret, we're still just about on course to get everyone's first D2D turn done before Christmas and complete the FPL Cup group stage. So that leaves us with just some men's internationals and women's club games in an otherwise ordinary round this weekend. That set of 10 will be up at the top of the thread very soon. Quote
