Another one that I forgot about, and I don't really know how. 

I've always had a soft spot for Mr Kennedy. He must have really pissed someone (or some people) off within the company, as the fact he's not even returned for a guest Rumble appearance is a little surprising. 

I enjoyed the majority of his run in WWE, and I'd love to know how his career would have panned out had one of the big storylines they had plotted out for him actually happened; whether it was being revealed as Vince McMahon's son, or actually being able to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. 

I thought he was terrible in TNA, and I wasn't massively impressed with his NWA stuff either. Still, I enjoyed him within the WWE environment, and I can't decide whether he merits inclusion in a 'shit' thread, or a 'what might have been' thread.

Nearly injuring Randy Orton was the last straw, as I understand it. He was already on thin ice for the Signature steroid scandal, but I think he'd injured or nearly injured Cena, and was getting a reputation for being unsafe.

His TNA and NWA stuff was solid but not particularly memorable, but I do remember some of his best promo work in TNA.

He was a little like Roddy Piper in that he had an ability to make things seem really personal. The one that stands out to me is Hogan having a go at him, talking about how Anderson was pissing him off (or something like that), and he simply responded with "Well, why don't you do something about it...TERRY?!" which got an audible "Ooooooh!" from the audience.

He was also a lot more naturalistic on the mike than he was given credit for. He talked like a motormouth dickhead you might meet anywhere, rather than a wrestler declaiming to the stadium like The Rock does (nothing wrong with that, but it's a style that was getting overused at one point).

I've just watched some of it back, and you're right - it's really good. I'd also forgotten what had grated on me as far as his TNA stuff goes, and that was his 'asshole' catchphrase/nickname. I remember him leaning far too heavily on it, and it grated on me. That said, I found TNA a frustrating watch at that time, so it could be that I was judging his gimmick more harshly than it deserved.

Kennedy either won people over or not when he did that deal with Sean Oliver and answered how big Batista's cock was and talked about Randy Orton putting his balls in his boots.

No, I think you're right about the most part - his in-ring stuff wasn't great unless he was in there with Angle or Joe, and the "asshole" gimmick was try-hard and cringe as hell. But he was definitely a good promo in a very unique and naturalistic way at one point. 

There are some other moments that come to mind: 

When he first arrived, there were fans chanting "Over-rated" at him; he just stopped, looked around, made a big "O" with his arms over his head, and went "Ohhhh" really sarcastically, and it got a laugh. 

The other one was when he was on the verge of turning face (I think); he came down to the ring, and talked about how he got punched out when he talked shit about Angle (again, I think), then said "Maybe I had it coming", in this very casual, laidback way that made him seem quite likeable.

Yeah, one good thing Kennedy had especially in TNA run was that as catchphrase as he sounded in his entrance, he wasn't a bad promo at all at sounding like it was personal issues = money feel when he had something worth being off autopilot. He was a particularly brilliant shithouse during the 2010 Kurt Angle feud.

The biggest problem with Ken was when he just wanted to play at being Stone Cold which was unfortunately a lot of his TNA run, there was nothing at all badass about him.

I think Kennedy would have made a perfectly decent mid-carder in WWE except for some reason the company and the fans seemed to expect him to rise to the main event level when he clearly never had the talent for that.

It's his performance on the mike. The self-announcement gimmick makes him come across as big-time, as the noise is expansive and fills the stadium. Also, repeating his own name added to the arrogance of the character, but also gave him a catchphrase the crowd could latch on to, or, rather, the formula of a catchphrase, which is relatively unprecedented - how many wrestlers could jump to another company, and have the crowd immediately repeating the new one along with him?

It's important to bear in mind he came along in an era when the WWE was running on fumes creatively. They had almost no-one outside the old guard who could command attention. He was basically the one-eyed man in the kingdom of the blind.

Sonny Siaki could fit this list, the Jarrett's obviously saw something in him back when TNA started but he just never clicked and missed something both as a in ring worker and as a talker. But I kinda loved the bootleg Rock.

EDIT: Looking him up and he actually had a run in WWE in developmental, I'd never realised that before. A real shame he had to retire early.
