wordsfromlee Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Theres a band signed to Sub Pop called Packaging. They're not even trying anymore. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 6 Paid Members Posted March 6 The final thing Daft Punk produced was a single by an Australian band called Parcels. Good song though. Quote
King Mal the Glorious Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I hope both of the above bands play Post-Punk. Quote

The Gaffer Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I think they're generally allowed more free reign, but can we shove in an especially bad album name in here? Quote

Might I ask at this juncture what you would consider a good band name? I only ask because I love the Beatles, Metallica and Pink Floyd but they are all objectively shit names and I wonder if the name automatically becomes shit once it's been chosen. Quote

The Gaffer Posted March 25 Posted March 25 The other two I can buy, but Pink Floyd's a fucking great band name, trying to imagine it if it didn't already exist. Takes two real life sources and creates something completely new and identifiable, that ticks the box of being incredibly sensory and scenic whilst simultaneously completely meaningless. That's a brilliant band name. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted March 25 Paid Members Posted March 25 (edited) Agreed. Though I don't really see the issue with The Beatles or Metallica - I think they suffer as names now because they influenced later band naming tropes that go overused, but for originality at the time, they seem fine to me. EDIT: The ones that annoy me are either the ones that knowingly reference something in pop culture, like Atreyu, The Ataris, or The Fratellis, or the ones that really torturously try to turn something into a "The -----s" - I knew one guy whom I otherwise liked who had a band called The Maida Vales. The Vaccines, The Dandy Warhols, The Kaiser Chiefs, all can sod off. Edited March 25 by Carbomb Patrice Loko Quote
The Gaffer Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Metallica becomes funny when Lars Ulrich spent the 90s telling people that Metallica were not a metal band. Quote
