Wonderful obviously! Did you get a pin?

I didn't. I had two bovrils though. And there was trouble after the game when some Basingstoke fans tried to nick a flag. A steward got punched. Awful game. 10/10.

I've chalked off the Moss Rose for a United friendly at Macclesfield, and the Butcher's Arms for Droylsden vs Farsley Celtic for my son's 7th birthday. We went home at half time because it was the coldest we've ever been.

The only other non league grounds I've been to are Gander Green Lane (Sutton United, and I actually played on the pitch as part of some football academy I went to as a kid that failed to make me not shit) and Champion Hill (Dulwich Hamlet).

My shifts at work are changing soon, so I will have lots of Saturday's free. I do love bovril. I'm giving this serious consideration.

I've always wanted to go down to Eastbourne Town as it always looks a right laugh, so give us a shout if you ever fancy meeting up with the Pier Pressure (fantastic name) lads with me :)

How do people feel about visiting non-league football grounds as a Dull Men's hobby?

One of my local teams is Hanworth Villa and I’ve got a mate who follows them everywhere. He’s been to a ridiculous amount of non league grounds and does ratings on the pitch and clubhouse and the beers they have on tap.

Got another mate who did a massive career on football manager in the Welsh league. Can’t remember which team it was, but he visited their ground this year and then drove to a few other grounds in Wales of the teams he’s faced.

Here, have an absolutely awful quality photo of what I assume is a tamper train with the name Tamper Tantrum, which made me chuckle waiting for a red light signal into Eastleigh Station.

I've actually followed up on my bold claims earlier in the thread and have gone to a couple of local non league games the last couple of weeks.

Croydon FC 1-2 Faversham Strike Force - Southern Counties East League Division 1 - 14/12/2024

The Venue - Croydon Sports Arena. There's a small stand that seats about 300 people I would guess. This was closed off for repairs. An old lady asked me if it was closed off and looked distraught when I told her it was. The pitch is surrounded by a race track and long jump sand pit, so you're actually quite far away from it. Not conducive to a cauldron like atmosphere.

Refreshments - No Bovril, which I'm pretty sore about still. They had bubble tea for fucks sake, games gone etc. Normal tea was £3.20. Game's shacked up with the bloke you hate at work.

The Match - Apparently Croydon's manager had walked out on them and some players had left, even though they'd been doing quite well so they were in a bit of turmoil. They looked rough here and had two players sent off in the first half, one for a stamp and the other for a second yellow card after a bad challenge. They were lucky not to get absolutely gubbed, so holding to 2-1 was fairly impressive. The opposition keeper kept screaming "Get on their fucking keeper, he's a second choice keeper, get the fuck on him!" during every set piece, so I was absolutely delighted when the mouthy twat let in a ice cream soft goal from a corner that he was at fault for. That shut him up for about ten minutes. It was absolutely freezing, so gloves went hastily on my Christmas list. Faversham winners, but you wouldn't be proud if you were them.

I'd put attendance at under a hundred, maybe 90. It was bloody cold. About 5 away fans, including one who would repeat anything a Croydon fan said in a sarcastic voice. Everyone seemed to enjoy that.

Overall, not a game to write home about, but enough to write about on a forum. You've got to have a heart of stone as a neutral not to enjoy two red cards. Would have loved a Bovril though.

Onwards to this week

Beckenham Town FC vs Three Bridges - Isthmian League South East Division - 21/12/2024

The Venue - Eden Park Avenue

Refreshments - N/A

The Match - Erm. Bit embarrassing this. This was called off. I found that out when I arrived at the ground and there was no fucker there. No sign up, but sure enough I checked the team's Instagram and there was a message from six hours earlier confirming the game was called off because the pitch was in a state. Lessons to be learned here. Check socials before leaving the house. Bollocks.

I stayed awake until 3AM watching live storm chasing on YouTube - multiple screens too. Saw absolutely fuck all. It was already pitch black in Mississippi by that time I tuned in, you couldn't have seen a tornado if one went directly past the window.
