I tried it in the morning, at night, drunk, stoned..." to which Noel replied "You should've tried it on 3 and a half grams of coke as that's what it was made on" Pure blow-rock that album. I liked Oasis. They are what they are. Seen them live a few times but it's full of the worst type of person. The ones that go to a festival abroad and wave the flag around are the absolute pits. Look at this cunt! Edit: Keith beat me to the drop! Edited November 29, 2021 by SuperBacon
hallicks
I think it was @IANdrewDiceClay on twitter that said "Wonderwall" is the 2nd best song of all time, because every other song ever made is joint 1st ahead of it. Someone put it on the jukebox in the pub last week, it was appalling.
Paid Members Lenin Posted November 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) Yeah was all for Oasis at the time and having a much worse band in terms of music and cuntyness (Blur) made them a no brainer.  Now though? Not sure. They were awesome live latterly, despite some distinctly average releases but if they reformed tomorrow I wouldn't be going to see them. Time and a place and it's not 2021. Edited November 29, 2021 by Suplex Sinner
The Gaffer
I wasn't of age to really see the knock on effect it might have had on lads, but I'm not sure how I feel about some of the more high minded retorts on the bands cultural significance. It sort of just feels like the same music press who invented britpop trying to forget-me-not it over the sheer fucking embarrassment of it all. A certain crowd will always drag their knuckles to the act of the times, and in amongst the drudgery of their actual back catalogue I think those albums are too dull to actually whip up any sort of genuine bigoted sentiments. The press spawned a monster, and to be honest I think it's a bit of a dodgy narrative that some other brilliant guitar music was waiting in the wings getting overlooked. Bands like the Manics were basically just Bon Jovi with a Penguin classic in the back pocket, anyway, and I think they benefitted from the sales ripple of the whole Oasis/Blur shite. If you were looking for boundary pushing in guitar music by the mid nineties, anyway, you were looking in the wrong place.

Paid Members Wretch Posted November 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2021 (edited) It's been mentioned already but I fucking love this video. Do all mancs sound like Karl Pilkington when they're having a whinge? They're both clearly bellends but I've always found Noel hilarious. I was just about the right age for when they released WTSMG so I'll always have a soft spot for them during that time and I still think the B sides album is great. Grew out of them after Be Here Now and I'd struggle to name more than a few songs since tbh. Listened to some of their solo stuff since the split and thought it was shite. The Manics had released 3 albums by the time of the Oasis/Blur battle for number one. Their less abrasive sound led to big sales and I’m sure they benefited from Britpop but to me they were never a Britpop band.  And they’re fuck all like Bon Jovi you absolute heathen!! But yeah. Britpop was the absolute worst genre. Total pigshit.
The Gaffer
Ha, I love the Manics for the record but some of the early music was almost intentionally rudimentary glam rock with a bit of Adrian Mole's Socialist Diaries thrown in. Little Baby Nothing, Despair to Where...great fun. None of these bands did Dog Man Star - mind - so we're talking about the minor leagues.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted November 29, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2021 This poll is not going quite as intended! I liked them. Played Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory a lot as a teen and I'm unashamed to admit it. Be Here Now was OK, but everything that came after wasn't for me. Liam can't sing for shit yet it worked. In fact, I think most of the stuff from that genre that has endured and still sounds good is from the female fronted bands. Echobelly, Elastica and Sleeper still sound really good. And Ready to Go will always be a banger.
