Paid Members BomberPat Posted November 25, 2025 Paid Members Posted November 25, 2025 yeah, Cornette was basically Jimmy Hart's understudy - Hart was the manager for practically every heel in the territory (I still think that the business model of having one top babyface feuding with a heel manager who brings in a succession of villains to try and topple them is one of my favourite approaches to wrestling), and so he was needed at most of the bigger shows. For the smaller shows, Cornette played that role, while on TV he lent more into the spoiled rich kid gimmick - early on, the idea was that he wasn't a very good manager and was just spending his mum's money (and a lot of the Memphis audience would have known his mum as she worked merchandise and the ticket office, and Jim had been around shows with her for years), so wrestlers would keep firing him after they lost matches. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 An episode of WWF Superstars from April 95 popped up in my YouTube recommendations. Hakushi and Kwang were a tag team called ‘Shoguns’? I’ve got zero recollection of this. Or was it just a one-off so they could do the Smoking Gunns vs Sho-guns wordplay? Quote
Chico Torres Posted January 2 Posted January 2 It was a one off to team them together so that they could break up and conclude their epic martial arts rivalry the following week and Kwang would then disappear forever Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 2 Paid Members Posted January 2 TIL, Tay Melo was on a WrestleMania (pre-show). She was in the WM 34 Women's Battle Royal. The one that was originally the Fabulous Moolah Battle Royal before Snickers called WWE on their shit. I'd no memory of her in NXT, let alone on a Mania (pre-show). Quote

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 26 Paid Members Posted January 26 Today I learned that Royal Rumble 95 could’ve looked like this if they just held the show earlier in the day… Just seen these pics on Twitter. Obviously from the Countdown show or something, which I don’t think we got over here either on Sky or the VHS release, did we? I had no idea the Sun Dome looked like that in the daytime but I’m a big fan of the occasional daylight wrestling show, whether it’s a dome or full on open roof. What a missed opportunity. Quote

No. Even with “behind the scenes” bonus stuff the VHS only ran 190. Which is still crackers considering it was a quasi-traditional 4 match 90s Rumble undercard and to that point the shortest 30 man Rumble of all time. Quote
Chico Torres Posted January 26 Posted January 26 It’s amazing how quickly the WWF fad disappeared in the UK so quickly after Summerslam 1992 and after most people I knew stopped watching I stuck with it and thought and still think 1993 and 1994 were great and honestly loved 1995 too. I still believed the WWF was as strong as ever with the New Generation in the post-Hogan era. But even I couldn’t deny that things clearly had declined specifically during the intro of the 95 Royal Rumble when Pamela Anderson showed up and all the “stars” were there to greet here and it really looked pitiful with Dink, Henry Godwin, Mabel, Smoking Gunns, Duke the Dumpster Droese and Well Dunn prominently featured. I had to admit that the glory days were a distant memory. Then the Rumble itself was the worst one by far with the lack of stars, obvious winner and short times in between entrances, and the big story coming out of it was some NFL player I had never heard of pushing Bam Bam (briefly “Scott” Bigelow) which held zero interest for me. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 26 Paid Members Posted January 26 Funny this topic coming up. The kids went back to the comic shop yesterday and while nosying about, I found the 1995 WWF Sticker Album (It was complete for £50 for anyone wondering.) I have absolutely no memory of ever having seen it before, certainly not at the time when you just didn't see anything from the WWF at all in the shops apart from the magazine. I think it was early 1996 when I started to see a little bit of merch and the video tapes again with figures of Goldust, Mankind, Mero, Ahmed and Triple H all confusing me as I'd had very little access since the end of 1994.
