Oh yeah, that was during David Flair’s legendary “international mystery tour” phase — right between “existing because of his last name” and “wait, he’s still wrestling?” All Japan must’ve been like, “We’ve got world-class talent… but what if we also added a human shrug?” Pairing him with Muto is especially wild — that’s like putting a Ferrari engine next to a lawnmower and calling it a tag team. As for the story? Probably the same as every David Flair story: Someone backstage lost a bet. Quote

AJPW were struggling after everyone jumped to NOAH, and Muto ended up running the company, and trying to model it on WWE as a "sports entertainment" company. Aside from David Flair, 2005 featured AJPW runs for such luminaries as Bull Buchanan, Rico, and Johnny Stamboli. Quote

Buchanan sort of feels like he might have been able to blossom in Japan (guessing he didn't). I suppose D Flair has name value, but that would evaporate as soon as you saw him perform. Quote
