It's not from today, but I saw it today, and it made me chuckle. A lot of people on here have probably already seen it.

I was going through some old Xbox messages and found one I received after beating someone on FIFA, which to date, is the most pleased I’ve ever been with myself.

My youngests team won a very bad tempered Cup game today against a very good Division 1 team. 2-1 down, 3-2 winners and boy were the other team bad losers. Constantly moaning at the ref, shouting and screaming at our players, their manager was giving it to the teenage ref (bless them all) and as they came off the pitch they were all whinging still, moaning at each other and rowing with their parents.

They then had to watch, and listen, to our girls pop on their bluetooth speaker, and as is now tradition when they win (dunno where it comes from) dance/conga/piggyback/sing/scream across the pitch to Miley Cyrus Party In The USA. The other team and their parents looked furious. It was marvellous.

We got one of those Amazon Alexa things with a screen about 4 years ago and discovered you could upload your own photos to it about 2 years later. The wife sent me some photos of us, holidays, the cat and family to upload to it and since then, around 50-or-so pictures have been rotating round in between pointless recipe ideas, irrelevant product suggestions and the weather from where we used to live.

Before uploading them, I sneaked in a picture of Matthew Kelly in full You Bet regalia - waiting for my wife to notice. She didn’t, or at least she never mentioned it.

Knowing her as I do, I suspected she wouldn’t rise to it as she knew I was looking for a reaction. But I’m a patient chap, and saw this as an opportunity for a far longer game.

I decided to change Kelly out for another random face each month, and would wait for a bite. Since March 2024 there’s been nothing - not even a passing comment. Either she’s a been oblivious to it, keeps forgetting to mention it or maybe she’s more my equal than I gave her credit for.

On Friday, the day I was beginning to think would never come, came. I was just sitting down ready to give The One Show the benefit of the doubt, in hope Clara Amfo was on presenting duty when I heard from the kitchen “Seriously, who the FUCK is that and can you stop it now?!”

I didn’t immediately realise the game was up when I averted my attention from Sarah Hadlad on the sofa (I’ve always had a big thing for her) and entered the kitchen just in time to see an advert for Who Wants to be a Millionaire scroll in to replace Nerys Hughes on the Alexa.

“Please stop it now” came the follow up as I sulked back into the living room.

Here’s who’s been peaking at my wife when she makes her tea in the morning over the last 25 months - all to no reaction.

  • March 2024 – Matthew Kelly
  • April 2024 – Clive Mantle
  • May 2024 – Michael Elphick
  • June 2024 – Nina Myskow
  • July 2024 – Derek Jameson
  • August 2024 – Andrew O’Connor
  • September 2024 – David Hamilton
  • October 2024 – Rustie Lee
  • November 2024 – Lionel Blair
  • December 2024 – Sue Johnston
  • January 2025 – Gwen Taylor
  • February 2025 – Rula Lenska
  • March 2025 – Jeff Rawle
  • April 2025 – Tim Healy
  • May 2025 – Mike Morris
  • June 2025 – Les Dennis
  • July 2025 – Jim Bowen
  • August 2025 – Tom O’Connor
  • September 2025 – Anneka Rice
  • October 2025 – Nick Owen
  • November 2025 – Jan Leeming
  • December 2025 – Russ Abbot
  • January 2026 – Tony Slattery
  • February 2026 – Henry Kelly
  • March 2026 – Keith Harris
  • April 2026 - Selina Scott
  • May 2026 - Nerys Hughes

I’m both gutted and relieved it’s over, but genuinely disappointed Hughes didn’t last a day and the June contestant of Bruce Grobbelaar will never get his turn.

I laughed more and more at each name, popped huge at Mike Morris.

Excellent work Scratch. There is no doubting your vintage when scrolling that list of names.

Weird, I was down a Wikipedia rabbit hole yesterday reading about Rustie Lee and Mike Morris.
