Whats the difference? Or do you just mean it's not the bombastic OTT stuff people expect based on Marvel etc? Quite a few reviews have said it's actually pretty accurate to some of the Batman comics rather than what the movies blew him up to be on the big screen.

This. Its very much like the original comics of Batman being a detective (and yes, it was Detective Comics where he debuted). I’d say the Marvel crowd probably won’t like it because it’s not bombastic, but then I am a huge MCU film and think it’s brilliant so maybe not.

I think it was the film Christopher Nolan thought he was making with his trilogy, but it’s been executed much better then any of them.

Nice and socialist, Broadbent and Mirren are great, and it's over and done with fairly quickly.

Do they mention the fact that the actual guys motive was against the BBC license fee?

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get Tom Holland. He's so bland.

There's a lot of licence fee stuff in The Duke, yes! It's a pleasant enough film, Broadbent's very good in it. And it's got a good joke about Byker. We went to see it on a Sunday afternoon which felt like the perfect time for it.

The reception of Uncharted has me remembering a similar reception for National Treasure. A really good shit film. Obviously you can’t expect Tom Holland or Mark Wahlberg to match the charisma of Nic Cage but I’ve already got a Sunday afternoon reserved for when I can illegally stream it and watch it for free. I’ll never forgive them for not casting Bryan Cranston as Sully though.

Tom Holland is perfect Spiderman. But everything else he is in he comes over as just boring. Uncharted succeeds despite both leads being the wrong choices for their respective characters. I would absolutely like to see more despite the casting though. Just fun, and it has made me go back through the games again.

It’s not a comic book film so it actually needs to go in the films based on a comic book thread.

Ahh, I see how this happened. I don't think we have such a thread.

We do now.

Bloodline

Sean William Scott plays a school counsellor who is a serial killer. There are obvious comparisons to Dexter but I thought this was far superior. This bollocks ended after 96 minutes, not 96 episodes.

Fresh (2022)

Went into this not knowing anything about it and still didn't get much from it. I'd still recommend going into it blind as it seems to have been pretty well received. One or two excellent moments and Daisy Edgar-Jones is a really exciting talent, but I'll have forgotten about it by tomorrow.

The Great Muppet Caper (ok.ru)

EAT THROUGH BARS

Enemy at the Gates (Great! Movies)

Solid war film from a Russian perspective with a weird mix of accents and it's about half an hour too long. The combat and sniper scenes are excellent though and Jude Law is surprisingly good in the lead.

The Killing Fields (Prime)

Still an extremely powerful film about the Cambodian genocide. Doesn't go as hard at the Americans as I'd personally have liked it to, but they don't get off too lightly for their part played.

My Man Godfrey (ok.ru)

Wonderful old screwball comedy absolutely packed with laughs and outstanding, memorable characters. Couldn't recommend this highly enough.

Double Team

The Van Damme / Dennis Rodman buddy action film we never knew we needed and didn't. The whole film should have been that weird bit about a secret island for malfunctioning secret agents. The rest, aside from the ending, is shite.

The Meg

Turning Red is good Pixar. It didn’t quite hit the emotional levels that their top level stuff does for me, but it’s really funny, has strong characters and a great sense of time and place.

Yeah I enjoyed it too, a good solid film. Mind you, I love red pandas so that helped!  4Town are good but they don’t take the crown from Du Jour for the best fictional boy band.

The Adam Project (Netflix)

I actually really enjoyed Free Guy but this latest Levy / Reynolds collaboration is pretty bad. Reynolds has just been in too much stuff lately and the schtick has worn me out. The odd decent action scene but that's about it. Go home, Ryan, you're married to Blake Lively.

Nightride (Netflix)

The second one-take drama this year - not a patch on Boiling Point but a decent enough cross between Locke and Wheelman. Some of the dialogue ain't great and the ending is shite but definitely a worthy background film.

The Misfits (Prime)

Renny Harlin hasn't made a decent film for well over 20 years and this is a terrible $15 million advert for Abu Dhabi and nothing more. Pierce Brosnan decides to play it drunk, Tim Roth tries his hardest to be in it as little as possible, and there's really only Hermione Corfield to recommend it for.

Executive Target (YouTube)

Joseph Merhi made a bunch of cracking actioners in the 90s (Rage is especially superb) and this one is really enjoyable as well. I don't really care for Michael Madsen but he puts in the effort here, Keith David's a great villain, and Roy Scheider is president. He gets my vote. The highlights are the two excellent car chases.

All the Light in the Sky

The usual mumblecore shit. But Jane Adams is very naked, and quite a lot, too, so obviously essential.

The Steel Helmet (YouTube)

Superb Korean War film, really gritty and violent and commenting smartly on American racism both at home and abroad. Samuel Fuller also made Fixed Bayonets! in the same year, another excellent Korean War film that's as good as this.

Sunshine (Prime)

Still bugs me how bad the final third of this is. Some of the worst work Danny Boyle ever did. The rest of it is still really good though.

The Nice Guys

You know who else was only following orders? Hitler.

The cat fell asleep on me, and rather than moving her to turn the PS4 on I've ended up browsing the Sky Movies on demand bit, only to end up watching both Crank movies. They're very late 2000s in the way they're edited like music videos. Such dumb movies.

They'll be no Crank slander anywhere within my line of sight. Wonderful movies, there'll never be anything else like them.

They are a lot of fun. Disengage brain and enjoy the ride. Neither outstays its welcome either. Shoot Em Up was out around this time wasn't it? A similarly ridiculous, but fun, movie.
