A friend has recommended to me The First Spaceship on Venus from 1960, tomorrow at 1:30. Said friend is a fan of its writer, Stanislaw Lem.

No idea if it's any good objectively, but I'm a slag for sci-fi so will record it.

Supposed to be what George Romero copied to make Night of the Living Dead. 

Talking Pictures sneaked in They Live at 1am last night too.

Though maybe not as good as Talking Pictures, I recently came across The Archive, which has a tonne of obscure films and TV shows that are free to watch anywhere, it seems. 

There's a lot of shite in there, obviously, but also some real gems if you look hard enough.

Teatime treat at 6pm tonight. Hitchcock's, Notorious is on. Cary Grant & Ingrid Bergman star as post WW2 spy's, in this slick, suspense set in Rio De Janeiro.

I'm going to try to get the first one on On Demand, if I can - I've been listening a lot to the Paul Temple radio plays on BBC Sounds. They're very hokey and contrived in a terribly terribly British sort of way, but they're fun. Would be good to see if the film matches up to that.

Also, I think someone on here has mentioned Cash On Demand before and said was good. And I'm always intrigued by Edgar Wallace stuff - another good listen on BBC Sounds is his detective series The Mind Of JG Reeder.

Cash on Demand is excellent, one of the very best non-horror films Hammer ever produced.

Most of the best Edgar Wallace adaptations are German ones with Joachim Fuchsberger in the lead but many of them are hard to track down, or at least with English subtitles or dubs.

Paul Newman is in Hombre is on tonight at 9pm.

Late 60's Western, same year Newman was in Cool Hand Luke. Hombre has the same writer, director and stars Newman like in their previous western, Hud.

Hombre and Hud are really good westerns. Martin Ritt was one of the great under-appreciated American directors.

An arty, drama showing the human frailties of emotions over intelligence.
