carfire37
Get a women's tourney going where they are all ex porn stars and let Foley just sit outside full sail in his santa jumper wanking off, fucking tosspot with his backhanded compliments all the time and stupid innuendo. Fucking brilliant show by the way, I ragged TJ for being unlikeable, but I tell ya what tonight he personally turned me around, great underdog showing and a cracking, real promo at the end. Well done TJ. My feelings exactly with Perkins. At first I was "meh" about him and was disappointed they put him over Swann, but this week's episode flipped all of that and I was rooting for him. iPumaPants
I've heard so much about the tournament, and watched the first couple of episodes, and I'm gutted I've not had more time to keep up with it. I'm currently watching the finale, but would anyone be able to suggest their top matches to watch? I really wish I had time for all of it, but I don't
Paid Members PunkStep Posted September 16, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2016 Anything involving Akira Tozawa, Jack Gallagher, Brian Kendrick or TJ Perkins. They've all been the stars for me, excellent matches. Also most of the first round matches weren't all that, but mostly everything from the second round onwards was very good. Massively agree with all of this although my match of the tournament (Gargano vs Ciampa) was from the first round. Although it's a close run thing between that and TJP vs Ibushi)
Michael_3165
Bloody brilliant match between TJP and Ibushi. Great storytelling, the selling was subtle but really good and the finishing five minutes were just fantastic. Not sure about the knee bar though, doesn't look like it does much. Jackpot
Does anybody know how much of the interviews were scripted and how much was free range for the wrestlers? And the same for the commentary.
Paid Members Benno Posted September 16, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2016 You'd expect they were directed still but it definitely all came across more natural. Probably equivalent to how natural similair talking head interviews are in reality shows or on the X-factor etc. Tyson Dux talked about the level of scripting of the matches here: http://411mania.com/wrestling/tyson-dux-reveals-what-the-cwc-competitors-werent-allowed-to-do/ On the restrictions & limitations in the CWC: “We had agents. We had to deal with agents as well and plan it out. I know for me personally, I wanted to do a stalling suplex from the second rope and they completely scrapped that. They said no way can you do that. For whatever reason, Me & Zach were supossed to be 50/50 right up to the end and it was more of a showcase for Zach which is understandable, right? I get it. There weren’t major handcuffs put on, but they did want to steer the ship the way they want to steer it. So as we go along and get more progressive into it, they’re easing up on it. Tozawa is known for that snap german suplex with a hold for the pin and they were adamant on saying no absolutely no head drops at all and when push came to shove, Tozawa did put (Ken) Johnson directly on his bean for that snap German suplex. Its the same as anything. It’s wrestling politics. Either you kind of bite the bullet and ask for forgiveness later or you just do your stuff. I’m sure to God that burning hammer (Brian Kendrik’s) was not discussed. WWE doesn’t even let the tombstone fly other than the Undertaker.”
Paid Members PunkStep Posted September 16, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 16, 2016 It's an interesting point regarding the burning hammer, I was stunned to see it and quite clearly the crowd were too. That should've finished the match. Not saying Kendrick should've won, but that move finishes matches, end of. And it's a move I've always assumed is on WWE's 'no way bro' list. The Tyler Reks version of the move was a much safer variant, wasn't it? I.e. not a head dropper in the slightest, so not really a burning hammer anyway. And he was told to stop using it, but for different reasons apparently (Cena's request).

Agreed though, the interviews did come across a lot more natural, as did the commentary. It's one of the reasons I asked because it was so refreshingly different to the forced nature of a lot of the stuff on RAW and SmackDown. I'm guessing it's just another case of Tripe H allowing the wrestlers to be themselves a bit more compared to Vince wanting them to be how he wants them. WyattSheepMask
Finally got round to watching this today. Glad the final panned out with who it did and that they didn't just go with the two guys with the most internet points. I agree that it shouldn't be an annual Cruiserweight tournament, doing it every year will be hard to do without filling it with enough different competitors year on year. A women's tournament and a heavyweight (250lbs+) tournament would be ideal. Another poster mentioned about having one year being a tag team tournament, but I think they were talking about bringing back the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic back again this year on NXT so I doubt they'd have two tournaments in such quick succession. On the whole, I've enjoyed the CWC for the most part. It's certainly brought a number of fresh faces to what will hopefully be a decent Cruiserweight division. I don't expect them to be headlining PPVs or anything like that, but it certainly has its place on the card
