My Dad absolutely loved it, so I'd buy him the VHS series whenever they came out, but I'd watch them first, which massively wound him up 😆 I rewatched it all not long ago and thought it was still very funny. Drunk is one of the all time great sitcom episodes. "BED? BEDS FOR SLEEPY PEOPLE! LETS GET A KEBAB AND GO TO A DISCO" This still tickles me so much. Gary and Tony being 'tacticos' 30 years before that was a thing. "I've been studying the shoulder stats" which you absolutely know some stat nonce does. Quote
Chili Posted July 7 Posted July 7 (edited) Men Behaving Badly on ITV was also pre-watershed, which was just not going to work at all. Big fan of that, even if my Mum wasn't happy that'd I'd learned the word wanker from Martin Clunes. The 'Drunk' episode is a great bit of business, the peak. Ahhh, just saw Bacon post the same. Good taste. "Shall we use my keys?" "Keys? That's a good idea, I was looking for my bollocks" Edited July 7 by Chili Quote
Paid Members hallicks Posted July 7 Paid Members Posted July 7 I remember an advert for an ITV sitcom, must be early 90’s, that ran endlessly for weeks in advance of the first episode. The teaser was Nicholas Lyndhurst skulking alongside a row of parked cars and someone opening one of the doors and hitting him. (Weeeyyy slapstick!) I presume this was the funniest bit they had. Would this be from any of the ones mentioned so far? Quote

Chili Posted July 7 Posted July 7 I have no memory of it but it's a few years before I understood what was going on or understood anything. Always weird hearing Nicholas Rodney doing his actual thespian actor voice. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted July 7 Paid Members Posted July 7 Yeah I've got no memory that, ITV comedy is rich with stuff that no cunt remembers or cares about. Shelley ran from 1979 - 1992. Ten series, 79 episodes. Hywel Bennett stars as Dr James Shelley, a "freelance layabout". When was the last time anyone spoke about this out loud do you reckon? Quote
davertfnewman Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Although his thespian voice is his actual voice, because he's quite posh. My Good Friend was a twee ITV one that I enjoyed because it was just really nice, plus Minnie Driver was her hottest in that Alan Partridge/Goldeneye/Good Will Hunting/Circle of Friends period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDDScQj1un4 Holding the Baby was so bad that Gary Lineker was winding Nick Hancock about it. David Jason had an ITV sitcom around that time too, "A bit of a do" with Gwen Taylor. I thought it was crap but I was only young and probably expecting Delboy. Gwen Taylor was in another one, Barbara with Sam Kelly, which wasn't too bad for ITV. Quote
Chili Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Is Desmond's well remembered or revered. I know where going to Channel 4 there but it's seen as being quite groundbreaking without it ever really getting into any upper pantheon of memory. No idea if it ever got repeats. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted July 7 Paid Members Posted July 7 Desmond's is great. Used to get repeats on London Live all the time, don't know if that's still the case. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted July 7 Members Posted July 7 Desmonds, and Porkpie, was huge where I grew up, the whole estate would watch it, and my Dad would then go round doing his Jamaican accent and going "Hhhhhh, give some skin" all week. Simpler times. Quote
