I really like Barrett. I like his Britishness but I don't like him because he's British. He's a tremendous promo, his work is good and he looks great. I think he's shown how good he is by how much he's got the BNB gimmick over when plenty of others would have sunk with it.

For a guy who seems to have the lot and was given a real opportunity with a fantastic role as leader of the Nexus, why do you think Barrett didn't make the breakthrough to being a proper star?

And will he ever make it? It seems very difficult these days for someone who has spent a lot of time in the middle of the card to really progress. It's like they're typecast. He's got time on his side though.

If you do think he can still progress, what does he need to do it. Is it just a case of them writing an angle for him or does he need to have stand out matches to increase his standing. The BNB gimmick is fun and he's fun with it but is it a star's gimmick?

He does seem to lack really standout matches. He's the sort of guy who'll give you a 7/10 every week, rarely has an off day but isn't MOTM very often. Favourite Barrett matches?

I think the meandering between Nexus and BNB and the clear demotion to Smackdown after his feud with Cena back in 2010 hurt him a great deal. I feel that he still has a lot to offer though, his mini-feud with Bryan which ran alongside Bryan's feud with the Authority was really enjoyable and if he was put in to programmes with guys that he can have a good showing with he may very well be a good threat to a WWE Champion after some solid wins.

If they told the right story in 2010-11 with Barrett winning the Title at Surviour Series building up to him and Cena at mania. I believe Barrett would be a main eventer now.

I'm not going to give him a mark out of 10, as like I've said before I feel it's impossible to rate a wrestler numerically accurately and fairly, however I will say he's quite the talent. As I said in the Smackdown thread about him and his delivery this morning...

Wade Barrett's delivery of "And mark my words Rob, there is no way in the World at Payback this Englishman is gonna lose to a bloody Yank!" from the promo posted below is one of  my favourite deliveries I've ever heard. I dunno if it's his years spent living in North Wales which have given him a way of saying it that I hear so much around here, or the fact it's so bloody Northern in general, but it's great. A fantastic mixture of nonchalance, disdain, determination and confidence. Just the way he says "Bloody Yank" is perfect as it has the exact vocal inflection that I've heard countless times when people say that exact phrase "Bloody Yank", like a dead heat between wearyness and annoyance with the Americans like has been heard in pubs so many times, like when someone watches the news and just pontificates "Bloody Yanks..."

Promo starts at 0:40

See, a man who can inspire that kind of emotion and feeling from just two words at the end of a sentence is a master of delivery, and that's exactly what Wade Barrett is. He delivers his promos pitch perfect which elevates even weak material to something serviceable. His work is solid, and he's certainly believable, is tall, and has a good rugged look. Unfortunately though he's been bogged down in the IC title lather, wash, rinse, repeat cycle too many times for too long, and I think that's damaged any chance he has of making the upper echelons of the WWE.

I think, also, giving him The Corre stable after Nexus didn't help - made him look like he'd been shoved out of his own gang, and he'd been forced to make up a new, shit one. That they didn't do anything and were just trapped in nothing matches only exacerbated the shitness of that move.

"No room for Barrett, huh? Well, I'm gonna have my own casino! With blackjack! And hookers!"

I like Barrett, and I didnt used to. The black coat and rose deal didnt seem like the real him at all, but he got into a groove as Bad News last year and felt a lot more genuine as a sardonic troll. Its a shame he hasnt been very focused on since his return, IC Title or not, and I'm afraid he may have that "injury prone" tag that stops them from committing all the way.

But he's damn good, and think he could be a lot better is focused on and given a feud with some substance...

He's probably the most underused bloke in the company. His promo work can be up there with the very best they have, if the material is good enough. In fairness to WWE, whenever he gets a bit of momentum due to a push he gets a bad injury, which kills all the work put in.

Barrett should be the top heel in the company, IMO. He showed with Nexus he's got it in him. Hopefully he can remain match fit though.

He's grown on me tremendously over the years. I liked him in Nexus but thought he was a 'at the right time' kind of guy, but he's proved how talented he is over the years. WWE are definitely high on him because they love to stick a midcard title on him and he's one of the most protected midcarders going in terms of losing matches.

Great on the mic, underrated in-ring, very good look- he's a well-rounded guy. He can also do the cheap heat (in terms of anti-home crowd promos) without it coming across as a desperate attempt to get the crowd on his back.

Hopefully he can be the first British (proper) world heavyweight champion.

You what? He lost to Sin Cara on the very next show after getting the Intercontinental belt back and since then he's lost to Ziggler, Ambrose and even fucking R-Truth on TV. And last June (while Intercontinental champ) he lost to Sheamus on Raw then three consecutive pinfall losses on SmackDown to Roman Reigns, to Ziggler and to Ambrose, right before he got injured. He gets the same shitty "lose non title matches" treatment on TV as every midcard champ they've had for years.
