Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa. I'd heard it was brilliant and it didn't live up to the hype for me. I just didn't buy into the story at all.

I really liked it when I saw it at the cinema. I found it to be very funny and one of the best films I have seen this year.

So, this weekend I put paid to another piece of urban mythery from my school days, and finally watched Flesh Gordon. I also watched the sequel, but that didn't exist back then, and it was also shit, so no more need be said on the matter.

The original Flesh Gordon was one of those films that sat on the top shelf of the video shop, and all the cool kids claimed to have seen. Having now finally watched it, and compared it to their descriptions, it's clear that they were talking utter bollocks.

Instead of the cheesy 80s sex comedy I was expecting, it was instead a re-cut of an attempted porno from the seventies, thus predating the Queen soundtracked movie by a good few years. And as the Sam Jones film didn't exist, its point of reference as a parody/homage was the 1930s Buster Crabbe serials, and from this aspect, it was excellent. The set design and special effects were spot on, the soundtrack - even if it was just chopped up stock music - was great, and it was clear that whoever made it knew the genre well.

I remember the second one being even more sleazier than the first. Awful, awful, awful.

ADDED: Also remember the second one popping up a lot in the old Sky Movies "Thursday Night Sex" slot (11:30pm) in the mid-90s. I miss the old Sky Movies of about 1996. I barely watch it these days.

The second one is a typical late 80s/early 90s sex comedy, but one that looks like it had a considerable budget, yet with none of it going into the script. It wasn't funny, or sexy, or even "so bad it's good" enjoyable. Oh, and "lol, fat people".

Even though the first has nudity in pretty much every scene (and there is a blowjob shot that managed to stay in there), more often than not I found myself being reminded of old sci-fi and Harryhausen films. I can't remember what it was called, but I used to watch the serial that the rape robots were so clearly based on.

Skeletors "I'll be back" at the end of Masters of The Universe.

I only saw this again the other day, it made me wonder what the first ever post-credit scene was (and the history of end of film teasers in general). Anyone know any factoids?

I remember Bond used to have 'James Bond will retun in.......' and BTTF 2 had a load of talk at the time about being filmed back-to-back with pt3 IIRC, but whats the history of this now oft used thing in the movies?

I could look on Google, but someone out there must want to show some nerdy knowledge?

The first one I'm aware of was Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). In that, the credit sequence turns into a slow scene of someone on a sledge-carriage somewhere in the Alps. Once the credits stop, we see

Wikipedia gives a couple of '70s films as doing it - Tales from the Crypt and The Muppet Movie but it all seems to kick off properly as a trend, looking at their list, from around 1986.

Watched Compliance last night. Had been interested to see it since i'd seen it talked about on here, but i'm at a complete loss as to what to think of it.

In spite of the context set at the beginning with the referencing of studies and what not, I just can

Has anyone seen the Oldboy remake yet? I'm not paying to watch it at cinema in case I hate it so going to wait until it makes its way to Sky Movies next year

when i read of the people involved i had high hopes, but the film has been butchered over on IMDB. Might be a case of people hating on it just because it's a remake though.

Nope, even people who were looking forward to it are saying it's dreadful. It's being shit on from fans, critics and has died at the box office (Budget $30m/Box office $2m).
