JakeRobertsParoleOfficer Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 There was an official Michinoku Pro video with the match in full, plus highlights of the previous night in Portsmouth (Danny Collins-Sasuke among others). There was also an unofficial video by Ross Hutchinson at Suckerpunch which had a camcorder (from front row) of the match plus an interview with Sasuke. Don't remember the precise details, but I believe a Michinoku office guy called Hiroshi Arai was over here for some reason and pitched the idea of them flying over to do the matches on All Star shows to create something interesting for the Japanese magazines. I was actually at that one.
Dean Ayass Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 Yeah Sasuke had made waves nationally in Japan by this point with his performance in the Super J Cup and wanted MPW to be seen as a global promotion in the magazines by makign an impact abroad (bear in mind that they were known in Japan as a promotion who were stuck out on the most northerly island of Japan. There was very little online reach in those days and Sasuke decided to fly a small crew over England, as the country was known for welcoming Japanese stars (eg original Tiger Mask Sayama, Liger, Kojima, Maeda etc). As Dixon was the man who had brought over the more recent Japanese stars in Liger (as Flying Fuji Yamada) and Kojima, it was All Star who they approached. I think they did a show the night before in either Portsmouth or Southampton - a venue called the Guild Hall rings a bell. I remember Danny Collins being involved in a match and later on, he flew out for a few tours with MPW. Hanzo Nakajima stayed on and wrestled all over the UK for a few months. As John said, I believe that Hiroshi Arai brokered the deal.
Paid Members JNLister Posted January 2, 2017 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2017 Yep, Portsmouth Guildhall. Also had Shiryu (Kaz Hayashi) vs Ricky Knight, Tiger Mask IV vs Hanzo Nakajima, and Ricco the Gladiator & Rob Brookside vs Terry Boy (Mens Teio) and Sato. Also, Johnny Saint was on the Croydon undercard, which prompted his booking for the These Days show in Japan later that year.
Snitsky's back acne Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 A site called britishwrestlingdvds sells the Michinoku Pro tour DVD. Good shows and decent quality for a 1996 VHS.
Paid Members Tommy! Posted January 2, 2017 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2017 Hello Lads, I'm sorting out some photos I had on m old Iphone and found a bunch I took of an old merchandise catalog when I moved house back in 2015. I still have the book, a Summerslam 92 program, but it's packed away again so better scans are out sadly. They are here http://imgur.com/a/QIi4AI won't post them all as it would flood the thread, but though people may like a look. but to wet the appetite some LOD slippers
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 2, 2017 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2017 On the LOD DVD Animal has a pair of them in a trophy case. He has all that WWF merch they had out in the early 90s. The LOD were one of the most heavily merchandised acts in the WWF in the early 90s. They happened to catch that merch boom.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted January 2, 2017 Paid Members Posted January 2, 2017 As kids we would take the piss out of an old bloke who lived round the corner from us because he could often be spotted out and about sporting a pair of Legion of Doom trainers, as can be seen in Tommy's scans there. This was probably a good few years after the merch boom too.

As John said, I believe that Hiroshi Arai brokered the deal. A bit extra on Hiroshi Arai. He went to uni in London and used to attend All Star events at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. When he returned to Japan he began freelancing for Weekly Pro Wrestling magazine and also served as foreign talent booker for Michinoku Pro. In 1995 he returned to the UK to meet with Dynamite Kid for an interview and a match proposal (this eventually led to Dynamite's last match at Sumo Hall for Michinoku on 10/10/1996). Edit: Hiroshi also wrote a book, in Japanese, called Around The World With Michinoku that covered the Michinoku tour to Croydon and Portsmouth plus TAKA Michinoku and Hanzo Nakajima wrestling each other on an All Star show in Dubai (that also featured Johnny South, Drew McDonald, Little Prince and a Power Ranger).

This was probably a good few years after the merch boom too. There's a bloke called "Big John" who lives around our way. He's known as this because he used to run a gym, imaginatively called "Big John's Gym." Proper steroid den on the early 90s by all accounts. Well anyway, he has a flat and when you walk past he has his bodybuilding trophies in the living room window (in the window mind you!) and his wallpaper in his living room is cartoon drawings of Hogan, Davey Boy, the LOD, Kamala, the Boss Man, the Nasty Boys from 1992. He's had it in his living room for about 2 decades now, and it never fails to make me piss myself laughing when I walk past. What must anyone think when they visit his house? For the life of me I'm googling like mad to find this wallpaper. If anyone can find it, please do. Dont make me go and take a picture of his house tomorrow, because I fucking will.

Guest Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 It's not this http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wwf+bed+sheets+90s&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiGqoHi4qTRAhWsKcAKHZuHBe4Q_AUICSgB&biw=768&bih=928#imgrc=UMHP3hLiI-ivFM%3A But similar style of cartoons?
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 3, 2017 Paid Members Posted January 3, 2017 Yep same artwork. But Kamala and the Nasty Boys are on it.
