I'm not a major MMA diehard, but I read the Observer, drop in on this forum, and follow a lot of people on Twitter who cover or watch UFC closely.

And I have yet to hear a single person even once mention anything happening on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender series.

Several people have mentioned the show on this very site, Luke Thomas, Ariel Gelwani etc seem to like the idea, plus you don't need a 6 week reality show to build up guys and in my opinion, this would be the perfect replacement for TUF once the Fox deal ends.

It being on a Tuesday when certain sports have their off season it could act as filler and save the big shows for the weekend. They just need to move it around s bit Dana was a big fan of USA's Tuesday night fights and they have to go to smaller buildings like the Fertita owned palms casino of the Hammerstein ball room etc instead of. The shit setting of the TUF training center.

I just took a look on MMA Fighting there and it seems to be a busy day for fight announcements.

Dominick Cruz vs Jimmie Rivera and Cynthia Calvillo vs Carla Esparza have been added to UFC 219

UFC 218 has Ngannou vs Overeem booked. Also 'targeted' for that show is Hemry Cejudo vs Sergio Pettis.

In worse news than all of that to bring everyone back down, Rashad Evans is considering a move back to LHW rather than a move into his slippers and dressing gown.

However to pick everyone back up again, John Kavanagh is pushing for McGregor va Diaz III on St. Patricks Day.

If that's the case then I expect McGregor will be stripped of the title, as it'll have been 16 months by then since he beat Alvarez for the strap. Probably be as well just making the winner of Ferguson vs Lee the proper champion, and setting up a fight between Khabib and the winner of that one.

McGregor could very well go down as a two weight world champion who never defended either title.

I guess it depends what weight the fight is. If they do it at Welterweight I can very well see that happening. However, if it gets signed and it's at lightweight for the title, then I don't see it happening at all. As long as the fight is signed, and the title is on the line, the UFC would be insane stripping Mcgregor of the belt.

Imagine if Nate Diaz won the lightweight title after sitting out what would almost be a year and a half? Coming off a loss? Not having fought at lightweight for almost 2 and a half years? 2-3 in his last 5 lightweight fights?

I know it shouldn't surprise me, and it doesn't. it's just sad really.

I completely agree. Diaz getting a title shot with his record is insane, but i think we need it sadly.

This year has been pretty fucking dire so far and we need a huge fight asap.

I don't think this year's been dire. Considering McGregor hasn't fought this year yet (in the UFC at least), Rousey's gone, Cain's been out injured, Jones has only fought once, Bisping's been injured and not fought yet etc...I still think it's been a really strong year for fight quality. There's been no huge mega blockbuster fights but there's also been no shortage of really exciting fights and cards like UFC 214, 211 and a lot of the Fight Nights have been bang on. It's not been like 2014 to me where a lot of the shows felt like a chore to sit through. I haven't felt that at all this year. Even the non-UFC shows I've caught I've really enjoyed. Seems like everyone from Bellator to Cage Warriors to ACB have been knocking out mostly entertaining shows all year.

If you're the UFC then yeah, you're probably thinking 'we need something big'. Which is why you're seeing them clutching at anything they can. Bisping vs GSP for example, which is an intriguing fight but lacks something I can't put my finger on and doesn't feel like quite the big deal they'd like it to. But as a fan, I don't even think I need a big blockbuster. It'd be nice obviously but I kind of got my fill with the ridiculousness that was MayMac. I genuinely am happy with how the end of year cards are shaping up. We've got fights like Ferguson vs Lee, Cody vs TJ, Joanna vs Thug Rose, Poirier vs Pettis, Anderson vs Gastelum, Overeem vs Ngannou, Alvarez vs Gaethje to come. And there's more to be announced still. Just today I've read rumours of Holloway vs Edgar for 218 in December. There's the possibility of Stipe vs Cain, maybe. There's the chance of McGregor getting a fight in before the year's out. Maybe Yoel Romero, Robbie Lawler, Gustafsson, RDA and whoever get back in there.

They talked on the MMA Beat about Miocic-Cormier which makes sense both guts aren't big draws but both hold the the heavier belts, I think Cormier will be hurt by being knocked our no matter what Jones was on, the last time we seen him he was knocked out then crying.  He was undefeated at HW and going for another title will help his drawing power and 305 and HW get to build up some guys with decent winning streaks.

Cain won't be back for a while his back is still playing up, plus his last fight was a loss to Werdum.
