DavidB6937 Posted October 5 Posted October 5 I guess it belongs in here more than anywhere - Rowan Atkinson is doing some rare live shows in London next year: https://lwtheatres.co.uk/whats-on/rowan-live/ Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted October 5 Paid Members Posted October 5 Gonna try to get myself some tickets for that I think. I grew up on Blackadder and Bean. Quote
wordsfromlee Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Hasn't he become one of those "comedy today has been ruined by the wokes, unlike in my day" like John Cleese did? Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 5 Paid Members Posted October 5 I wonder if he'll do a bit about stealing James Acaster's girlfriend. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted October 6 Paid Members Posted October 6 He did say in this interview that he thinks every joke should have a victim, that there are people lower down in society that should be pulled up and that not all humour is for everybody. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/rowan-atkinson-cancel-culture-comedy-offend-1235299480/ He also campaigned against the law against offensive language as well. Members SuperBacon Posted October 6 Members Posted October 6 Absolutely hilarious that he said all that in an interview promoting MAN VS BEE. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted October 22 Members Posted October 22 If you have HBO Max, they have an absolute ton of classic stand up on there. Currently watching my favourite show ever, Chris Rock Bigger and Blacker. "That ain't Pocahontas, that's Jennifer Lopez!" When I was about 15 I taped it off Channel 4, and had it on a VHS with Jerry Seinfeld I'm Telling You For The Last Time (off BBC2) and absolutely rinsed it for years. I think that tape shaped my comedy tastes more than anything. Quote
Awards Moderator Frankie Crisp Posted Saturday at 11:24 PM Awards Moderator Posted Saturday at 11:24 PM Okay, so this wasn’t stand up comedy as such, but it’s the nearest thread without me starting one called Gorgeous Things That Made You Cry Your Fucking Eyes Out. We saw Billy Crystal’s one-man 860 show a few days ago and it’s legitimately stayed with us with his delivery and emotion. We’re three days removed and can’t stop talking about it. In my entire lifetime, I’ve never, ever experienced anything like it. He is, of course, the funniest man still going but he weaved the story of his and his wife’s lives so beautifully. It was utterly heartbreaking in so many places; his relationships and dealing with the deaths of Robin Williams, Muhammad Ali and Rob Reiner, plus losing his family home in the Pallisades fires whilst having us crying with laughter as he told the story of his career, life, fatherhood and what brought him to write the show at this point. If any of you are due to be in New York before mid-February I implore you to grab tickets as it’ll be one of the most fulfilling 100 minutes of your life. Just brace yourself for it writing you off - the last ten minutes, especially. Quote
