Minor news items that don't deserve a thread

I sort of agree. Ive seen him wrestle a million times and truly don't believe he's ever had a 'great' match and certainly not a great interview. The Flair matches were good, but back then Flair really could carry any old sack of shit to a decent scrap.

I wonder if the crow gimmick would have worked with other wrestlers. Ie. its more the gimmick than the person portraying it that was over. Just like i would imagine Kane would have worked with just about anyone under the mask.

Plus being in TNA does nothing for his legacy. Wasting his body in a dying promotion is crazy when the real big show would put him in a main match at mania in a heartbeat.

Being in TNA has helped him a lot, I'd say. Financially, WWE would never have paid him $600,000 per annum for 8 years. And as a worker and promo and as a professional he's far better than he was in WCW. His perception to wider fanbase may not have changed much (everyone still thinks of WCW Sting), but to anyone who watched him, they've came out of it with a far higher opinion of him than they did. He was a lazy bore for years in WCW. In TNA he's had his working boots on.

Sting would probably be another Nikita Koloff or Magnum TA now, if he didn't join up with TNA. One of them blokes from another era, who gets talked out but you wouldn't but them on a DVD cover or bring have them headline a Hall of Fame. If he'd have not been around for the last 12 years, its hard to see how much value he would have. TNA may not be much, but he's kept his name alive and enhanced his reputation.

This seems to be turning into one of those threads where people mention good Sting matches and others mention the times he went on strike on full pay and refused to go on international tours because he was to bone idle. Sting's attitude was the pits for years in WCW.

Sting's charisma meant it didn't matter if he could do a convincing promo or have five star classics every night. If he goes into the 'E he'll probably be in Crow mode but if he went back as Surfer Sting and went nuts he'd probably look far more exciting and dynamic than at least half the guys in the WWE right now. That's where Sting's quality lies.

Triple H mentioned in an Interview with Micheal Cole that he is no longer allowing the Bigshow to use his WWE name, so will now be going by Paul White. Is this story going a little "TNA" now?

Show debuted in the WWE as Paul White IIRC. Plus this storyline is great.

Yeah he did, but is there any reason for the WWE to be telling all the casuals and kids out there, that "We own the copyrighted names of our guys"?

It seems less fun.

Back in the late 80's/early 90's when a lot of us on this forum got into the wrestling the only "business" side of things we were exposed to on the TV and PPV shows was within the dynamic. Eg Bobby Heenan's stable of heels out for his gain. The introduction of "complex" (by comparison) matters surrounding legal contracts and copyright and licencing matters would seem a step too far for kids. Surely their minds just switch off until the next John Cena t-shirt promo . . . . ah, it all makes sense now.

I don't care how casual the fan is, I think they assume 'Big Show' has a real name

There have been a couple of moments like that recently that have done nothing for the old "suspension of disbelief" for fans. I'm paraphrasing here, but during the Rhodes angle recently, Cole said (while the family was walking out to ringside)...

"Of course the American Dream Dusty Rhodes came here in the 90s and the McMahon family made him wear polka dots and called him a common-man".

Oh right. So management give all the wrestlers nicknames and tell them what to wear huh? Crappy.
