Paid Members Surf Digby Posted April 22, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 22, 2014 and then I guess something wide for landscapes later..? Wide angle lenses are ace, and are for so much more than just landscape type shots. Â If you use them for standing back and "getting everything in", you'll end up with empty looking shots because all the detail will be tiny in them, like here, where it's made the buildings look even farther away than they actually were. Â Â Get low, or lean into a wall and the distortion will make everything look more dramatic. Â Â I love my ultra-wide angle lens. Some days I'll use it on everything that isn't a persons face. Â Similarly, don't just use a telephoto for things that are far away. I use a 300mm lens for portraits (on a cropped sensor, so the equivalent of 450mm, which is just stupid really) and by getting in close, it just gets turns everything in background into a soft blur. Â Â It'll work a treat on wildlife photos too. Â Â Any tips from you veteranos welcome Did you get a flash with it that you can tilt and twist the top part? If not, put one on your shopping list. Bounced flash is one of the simplest but bestest things ever.

The Guvnor
I'm no photographer, but I thought this was pretty good. It's Cameron House at Loch Lomond, taken from a cruise boat we were on.... Â
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted April 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 23, 2014 Â Were you taking one of those Beach Diaries Celebrity Tours? Â Millard Reality Weekend - live the beach, love the beach, sleep under a tarpaulin on the beach. Highlights include: * Holy shit, that really is a long bench (I was expecting a typical bench design, but somewhere around 12-15 feet in length). * You are now entering Beach Town, and * Shall I wash my hands or not? (emerging from a cubicle whilst looking at your hands and chuckling will get you some funny looks, by the way).
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 23, 2014 So, here's some shit I took on my first day out with the new camera and then playted around with in Lightroom. I think they're OK! :   _1020951-2  _1030053  _1030205  Bess running  _1030264  by akhil_popat, on Flickr
Paid Members chokeout Posted April 23, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted April 23, 2014 Great stuff. How are you finding it all so far? Â How did you manage to get your flickr working again? I tried to log onto mine from another computer last night and it wouldn't let me
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Cheers! It's a lot of fun. Enjoying figuring out how to use various tools.. On the camera itself that is playing around with the shutter speed and exposure, and the focusing and burst shot mode too. (haven't dared to approach playing around with the flash yet, as that is a whole other ballgame it seems) Â And then in the software, not in any of those photos above, but I was pretty pleased with myself in working out that I could get good results using the graduated filter tool on the sky to evenly reduce the exposure whilst still keeping the ground looking decent, like so: Â Â Â Couldn't at all on the PC. Eventually got a new sign up working on the mobile app, and was then able to log in to the new account from both afterwards.... Big Rob
Oh, and from a pure timing perspective, I like this one quite a lot... Â Also Chest, I'm digging that first dog picture a bunch, great colour scheme throughout it.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 23, 2014 Moderators Share Posted April 23, 2014 Thanks.. I particularly enjoyed that clown one of yours on the last page. I've always thought wrestling must be good fun to photograph - the photos was always what excited me the most about picking up new wrestling mags. Â I seem to be having trouble embedding flickr photos on here (any clues appreciated), so here's a couple links to some photos I'm quite proud of. Â Philo - if, when you go to "copy link", you select "BBE Code" it will give you the link in the tags you need for the forum. The default link they give you is a dynamic page which, as you have found out, you can't stick in IMG tags.

Paid Members Monkee Posted May 2, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted May 2, 2014 I've been doing a '365 Challenge' where I've been taking a photo every day. This is just using my phone and trying not to use any filters or special enhancements. Sometimes it's a bit difficult to find something different to photograph every day but it's really made me look around me more. I've been posting them all to Flickr but also on Instagram with some added filters on there to try some stuff out. There are other albums on my Flickr but only the 365 Challenge on Instagram. Â Here are a couple of my favourites: Â Â Â

Paid Members Monkee Posted May 2, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted May 2, 2014 Thanks! Paid Members chokeout Posted May 2, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted May 2, 2014 Oooh I'll add your flickr now, don't really follow many people on there. Heres a few more randoms of my computer, quite a few off Facebook so quite low res sadly       And a super special bonus pic of Kris Akabusi giving it the crazy eyes at a corporate event I did the pics for
