That's just how it goes with every type of thing where you have to structure a card to sell to an audience. The best case scenario for the Dada and Kimbo fight was that it would go a minute or two with a knock out. And Shamrock is so brain dead, he's not going more than a minute these days either. The night was going to be short and pointless anyway, but I think most hoped it would be entertaining. Instead of a total rip off. If you're going to use the likes of Shamrock and Kimbo, they need to go in the Divas spot. That pre-main event slot on the card, so you can wash your mouth out with a proper fight on top. It'll probably do well, but the old blokes generally can only work a few times in terms of business. And surely that's ran out now. I dont get how you can allow Shamrock in cage anymore to be honest. In these places where the reaction has been, "brutal," what exactly have people proposed for Bellator to do instead? Just book the best guys not in the UFC against each other? Fuck that. We get UFC events practically every weekend. It's already impossible to keep up with every event and every faceless guy fighting each other. Bellator have to do something to differentiate themselves. And ratings have thus far proven that this type of booking works for that purpose. Plus, say whatever you want about how out of shape and unskilled that Kimbo/Dada fight was, but I was still more interested in seeing that, and more entertained by the spectacle of it, than loads of the endless, generic fights we get weekly. The standard of competition in the Tito vs Bonnar and Ken vs Kimbo fights were very low, but neither stooped to the levels that Kimbo vs Dada did last night. Ian has a point, having two gimmick bouts on top did make it worse, especially as Royce vs Ken ended in the way it did. If they followed up Kimbo vs Dada with a Main Event featuring Brooks vs Thomson , it wouldn't have been as bad. Kimbo vs Dada would have still dominated the headlines, but the panning of Bellator would have been a bit softer. Anyway, Coker has ruled out another Ken vs Royce clash, and I doubt we will be seeing Kimbo in Bellator again. I think Coker can stick with the same strategy - I.E - bait the audience with a gimmick to switch them on to emerging talent - but he needs to change his gimmicks. It's likely that Rampage and Tito will end up taking the role that Kimbo and Ken played last night. Edited February 21, 2016 by jimufctna24 Quote

UR looks like the home for the mad gimmicky shit. They've got a fight listed on their website as "Roy Jones Jr. vs A FAN!" A fucking fan. At least Ken didnt get his faced smashed in. The Bellator method works at least for me, draw me in with a big name fight and I'll watch the others. It does more for me than for example tonight's UFC. I'm sure they'll look to do more celebrity related stuff like previously spoken about. Also sure if they can somehow medically clear Kurt Angle he'll fight. Quote

Ken Shamrock at 400 years old in 'fighter years' (which is like 'dog years' but with added cauliflower ears and wonky noses) fighting two months in a row? He must have mad bills to pay. Not that I expect this UR Fight thing to actually materialise. I actually hope it does but it seems too mental to ever see the light of day. We'll see. The Roy Jones vs a fan thing is ridiculous though. Surely that can't happen, legally. What commission is going to sign off on that bollocks? And the sad thing is, Roy's at the stage now where he's almost like the boxing version of Ken Shamrock, I wouldn't rule out the chances of the fan catching him and laying him out. Roy's fucked these days. One of the most gifted and freakishly skilled boxers ever and the best pound-for-pound in his day. But his day was the mid 90s and it's 2016. As for Kimbo, even if Bellator won't have him back and even if this UR Fight doesn't get off the ground...there's always Japan. Rizin would book Kimbo in a heartbeat. Quick. They don't care how shit you are as long as you draw a crowd or have a gimmick or you look good or you wear a funny mask or something. Japan are the daddy's when it comes to the MMA freakshow. We'll probably be seeing Kimbo vs Fedor, Kimbo vs Wanderlei, Kimbo vs Sapp, Kimbo vs some Japanese celebrity etc sometime this year in Japan. One before and one after the fighting one. So it's definitely not out the realms of possibility that they'll deliver. Coker's methods have been questioned previously but ratings prove its a winning formula, but Saturday is the first time ive genuinely felt that the show did considerable damage to the promotion. If it was just Ken/Royce it wouldn't have been so bad because that was just a bit of an unfortunate turn of events (though weirdly misfortune always seems to happen when Ken's in the cage). Kimbo/Dada however was just the worst fight in history, i dont think Coker or anyone else imagined it could ever have ended up being that bad. I expected a sloppy 30 second brawl where one of them drops, it wouldn't have been for the purists but it would have been exciting (especially given how much the crowd were into it to begin with). The whole thing was doomed from the moment John McCarthy let them lie on the floor for a couple of minutes early on, not quite sure what he was waiting for but it was all downhill from there. Tyson on commentary during the Guillard fight summed up the whole night. Car crash stuff, Tyson has lost the plot. The first Vassell/Newton fight was one one of the better Bellator fights of last year and even the rematch sucked on Friday night. It was just one of those nights. No ones talking about the bright spots but Pineda/Sanchez was a cracking little fight and Guillard/Campos was good whilst it lasted (Tyson aside), it all feels irrelevant considering what came after though.
