genuinely never heard of Perturbator and never listened to any Warning.

Can't stand the former but Warning put out what still might be the most heart wrenching doom album I've heard, the future stuff in 40 Watt Sun didn't get close.

‘Watching From A Distance’ I assume?

Aye that's the one, along with The Angelic Process' Weighing Souls with Sand and the two rerecorded albums Nadja put out that period was putting out the best truly depressing doom.

So, My Dying Bride have announced some new dates for next year, bringing an end to their recent hiatus. However, Aaron Stainthorpe seems to be out of the band (not officially announced) as Mikko Kotamäki of Swallow The Sun is set to front the band on these new dates

Manowar have announced a one off UK show next July. As come gig night they won’t have been here for nearly 14 years, this is likely their final UK show.

Nah, you’re alright

Didn't Manowar completely outprice themselves years back and have to end up cancelling their tour?

The last time they were over here was in 2019 when they played two nights at Birmingham Academy, and prior to that was 2011 were all dates did go ahead but I believe was a financial loss overall. I had it in my head that it was yourself that saw them at one of the shows on that tour (Cardiff?) that drew around 350.

Im not aware of them having booked and then cancelled a tour since though.
It’s a big risk for whoever they managed to rope in to promote this show though. If they make their money back then who am I to criticise, but they’ve only released tickets for the stalls and nothing for any of the upper sections (as yet), so it seem to be a show where they just try and gouge the hardcore fans

Check out his wonderfully wholesome appearance on the Sooty show which has long been one of my favourite videos on the internet.

Nicko at his best on my fave Maiden track, absolutely love the drums on this, almost the lead instrument

I once waited half an hour in line to meet him at a drumming convention and they cut off the queue one person before me.

Considering his stroke last year I think it was only a matter of time until he called it a day, which is obviously completely understandable.

It’s a retirement from touring rather than leaving the band which I think will please most people.
Mike Mangini (if people can get over him being American) could be a good shout to take over on live dates going forward

Some live videos of this Shanghai based Sludge band Conch popped up on my Insta so I checked out their one release so far and it's lovely, that perfect kind of disgusting and depressive noise.

Nah, wasn't me. Story rings a bell though.

When I saw Iron Maiden last year, Nicko hadn't yet gone public about the stroke. There were no obvious shortfallings in his playing (granted I'm not much of a drummer, but I know the songs very well), and any criticism I saw online about him simplifying some of the fills I put down to the possibility that 56 years of drumming was starting to take its toll. However, I watched some clips from his final show in San Paulo, and it was clear that he's lost a lot of his dexterity.

Sad to see him go at this point, and sad for the circumstances that have made him go, but better to step back now and still be able to contribute to the albums and play with Titanium Tart, than to end up like Phil Collins.

Genuinely took me a few days to get my head around Nicko stepping down.

Feels ridiculous even typing that as the reality is that its simply a very old drummer retiring from touring.

I truly adore Iron Maiden though and have done for a huge percentage of my life. My favourite band of all time and there is not even a close #2.

The tour next year is really not going to feel the same. For me, a big part of the appeal of Maiden that it was still those same guys. Steve, Dave, Adrian, Bruce and Nicko who made the the 83-88 run of records that wound soundtrack my life. (nothing against Janick!). I hope they pack it in before anyone else has to call it a day. I dread to think of a Maiden tour where its eventually just Steve and some session blokes.

Really grateful I got to see Nicko a couple of final times on the latest tour, even if we wasn't his best following the stroke.

Not sure if I have ever posted it on here, but I caught Nicko's drum skin when he threw it into the crowd on The Book of Souls tour. Its had pride of place on a shelf in my living room ever since. "All my best. Ta! Nicko 2017" it says on there. I've jokingly referred to Nicko as my close personal friend ever since. I was already over 30 then but I came running out of the venue to my girlfriends car with all the enthusiasm of a kid on Christmas day.

I've rambled on but I am devastated to see him go. What a drummer and what a likeable guy.
