It's a fantastic little touch.

Also him doing a sort of pretend "oooh I'm scared" after Takers pyro goes off at Summerslam 97. He added so many brilliant little details.

I was also a big fan of this...until Cm Punk copied it in his AEW debut and it became mega cringe.

Punk copied quite a lot of the Bret vs Kid match, in fairness.

I don’t know if they did it on Raw, you might be thinking of their KOTR 98 match which started the same way as KOTR 94 but with the roles reversed. Always loved that little callback.

That was what I was thinking of, but I thought it was on an episode of RAW. No memory of it being at the PPV but then again I’ve not seen it since it happened

One recent one for me that I loved and personally hadn't seen before, was when Christian screwed Jay White and then rolled and hid on the floor, only for Hangman to repeat the favour the next time Christian was facing Jay...

Always loved Bret since the first time I saw hit at Wembley in '92, but that one little facial expression is what made me realise what they mean by "getting it", and WHY I loved him.

It was a lovely detail that I don't remember many talking about at the time, but after distancing himself from the Montreal Screwjob at every opportunity, Shawn Michaels wearing the same colour scheme of tights as Survivor Series 97 for the 2004 Backlash rematch against Triple H and [REDACTED] was a fantastic little detail.

@Chris B exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about when I started the thread. Love stuff like that.

Also love little changes in gear when a wrestler switches from babyface to heel or vice versa. Like when Eddie Guerrero dropped the singlet top when he turned into a greasy heel in WCW in 97 and just went with the long tights/no top look.

Not so sure about Bret adding a bit of orange to his gear for his comeback match against Austin at Survivor Series 96 though. Should be pink and black, with a bit of white, only for the Hitman. None of this orange shite. I get the feeling Bret felt the same because I don’t think he ever wore this again, did he?

Not quite the same, but Iandrewdiceclay, the living legend, had a great thread on twitter about wrestlers on their last night wearing bandages, not doing their hair properly, mismatched gear, baby blue gear etc. I find that sort of thing utterly fascinating.

Big fan of wrestlers changing up their look when they turn heel and they make it feel like they’re reborn as a bad guy. Like when Kona Crush became a baddie and grew an evil goatee and wore sinister face paint with different tights, or similarly when Smithers turned bad and cut his hair and long tights, or Shawn changing from Rocker to Heartbreak Kid look, Owen Hart turning heel and so on. New gear, haircut, facial hair and music should be required when switching sides.

That was a big one for me. All he’d done appearance-wise was get a haircut but I couldn’t wrap my head around it in 95. 

Not a ‘little touch’ because it was a drastic change but Scott Steiner’s transformation from Michigan jacket wearing long dark haired babyface to ‘Big Poppa Pump’ with the bleached short hair and goatee was mind blowing in 98 as well. You’d think him turning on his own brother and joining the NWO would’ve been the shocker but it was his change of appearance more than anything.

Owen fucking nailed Kid with his one.

Xpac only grazed Owen with his.

There's a Rude match (possibly Warrior?) where he grabs his opponent, who's on his knees, by the hair and goes to give his little wiggle, but then grimaces in pain and grabs his back. Played nicely that just before this he'd taken some of his big backdrops.

That was a classic Rude spot where he would be determined to do the wiggle despite being in pain because the fat, out of shape, Minnesota meatheads demanded it. See also Rude doing the constipated butt walk after an atomic drop, the mincing wibble wobble walk after an inverted atomic drop and the skipping tip toe walk after getting his arm twisted.

One of the all time greats.
