Cracking event throughout. 

 

Seemed an incredible waste of Kingston's return and not sure what that pairing will do for either of them, but will see where it goes.

 

Always like an unexpected return or debut so seeing Beth Phoenix appear was pretty good. If she can still wrestle a bit, she'd be a good addition to the roster. Speaking of the women's roster - I did not see that coming in the 4 way! 

 

Baltimora being played is never a bad thing and it adds a new dimension to the tag division.

 

OC is coming back baby......whatever. Loved how KOR gave that away and how the rest of them were made up by that news.

I’m really annoyed that Toni Storm’s title reign ended like that. No main events, and dropping the belt in a four way. Would they have done that to Moxley? Omega? Page? Of course not. Statlander deserves a world title reign, but Storm - AEW’s greatest ever women’s champion - should not have lost the belt in this way. 

As far as the rest of the show is concerned, it was a good one. I had to skip through MJF/Briscoe as the idea of thumbtacks makes me squeamish, but it did seem like the fans were into it.

Beth Phoenix/Copeland would be a fun addition to the women’s roster, even if it was only for the occasional match - Beth/Mercedes could be a fun bout to run with as a one-off.

The triple threat was amazing. Dorada is one of my favourite wrestlers to watch, and I hope they do more with him, he’s absolutely amazing. Takeshita feels ready for the next level, and Okada…needs to change his theme song. But it was easily match of the night for me.

Page/Fletcher was great too, and I was pleasantly surprised that Chris Jericho did not get involved. Seeing his face in the video package beforehand made my heart sink, and I thought it was inevitable. Post match, I was still expecting to hear Judas. Perhaps he’s really gone…

…or perhaps Tony Khan’s announcement will be that Jericho has signed a new contract, and 2026 will be his retirement year. I think that’s unlikely though, and we’ll either get a women’s continental classic, or women’s tag titles.

Kingston looked a little off in his return match, and Bill was probably the wrong opponent for a guy shaking off ring rust. Teaming him with Hook - at face value - is an odd choice. Maybe it’ll work out, but at the moment I’m disappointed in the direction they’ve chosen here. 

Overall, it was a very good show, with a bit too much in the way of post-match nonsense for my taste and an absolutely shameful decision when it comes to how Storm lost her title.

The Jurassic Express reunion would have been so much better if Luchasaures hadn't have come back a few weeks ago.

As ever with AEW, some really good matches and action, but just far too much of it. Hangman/Fletcher must have gone about 40 minutes, completely unnecessary.

I'm okay with the Stat win. I think you need wins like that every so often to keep things unpredictable and I don't think AEW have overdone it in that area. The danger of always having long reigns and build ups is that it can often cause everything else to lose any real danger along the way. So you've got to throw these in sometimes.

Obviously I don't know the motivations  behind the decision or what the plans are going forward, but in the moment I enjoyed it.

Definitely agree with the Jurassic reunion. Would've played better for me if he just came back then. I get what they were trying to do but it lost a little bit for me. Still, the crowd loved it so probably doesn't matter.

Another really solid show overall. Wasn't a massive fan of the Mox match just because I feel like that plays to the worst of him, but I know a lot of people love that stuff. And as much as I enjoyed the main that was also a bit OTT and I never really bought into Fletcher winning at any point. But minor issues in a show with great energy and just people going out and wrestling their arses off as always.

That deadeye off the top rope really bothered me. Just insanely stupid and reckless with no way for the receiver to really protect themselves without basically landing on their neck.

You’d think Ospreay having to have neck surgery in his early 30’s would act as a warning or wake up call for people like Fletcher, but nope, all for a match that people won’t even remember by next week. Kyle Fletcher must be in the running for CTE world champion.

Feel like I watched a different PPV to some of you, I thought quite a few matches were pretty rubbish to be honest.

The C&C vs FTR match was a complete dud. It was all over the place, had a flat end, and Cope killed it by needlessly kicking out of everyone's finish just to win with a single spear. Really poor.

The Eddie Kingston match. Oh boy. I love Eddie Kingston, and at one point would not have argued against him being champ. This was not it for him though. 16 months out, and he's made no effort to get into shape, he botches a bossman slam twice and Big Bill has to deadlift him twice, he botches his finish and goes for the pin anyway. Thought this was an all-time bad match with a rubbish build. I can't even say it's the wrong opponent, this was mostly Eddie just being bad. Tony Schiavone's "He missed" call is up there as one of the worst of all time.

The Thumbtack Table match wasn't for me either. I've always defended the hardcore stuff AEW does when others haven't, but this one was too far for me. Not even because it was hard to watch compared to other matches, but just because there was no need for any of it. No suspense, no psychology, just dumping buckets of thumb tacks on the ground at the start and then taking turns falling into them.

I've not seen the Trios, TBS or Unified matches yet because I was over it by the end of the thumbtack stuff and went to play Xbox with my wife. I'll go back to catch the Unified match but that Trios match is a Dynamite main event if anything, and Riho is and has always been rubbish and unbelievable as a wrestler so doubt I'll bother. I tuned back in for the Coffin match.

The Coffin match was what it was. Maybe it was the fact I ended up going from the Tack match to this but I couldn't be arsed with it. You know what you'll get with these two and yep that's what you got. More blood, fork spots, and a frustrating Death Riders finish. Could not care less about PAC by this point, I give him a month before he's off TV for another year. He's a waste of their money.
The flaming bodybag spot they did later in the night may be the dumbest spot this company has ever done. I burned my thumb through an oven glove the other week because it got too close to the grill. That bag burned through in a second, I would not be shocked if Moxley is blistered up something rotten. Idiots, the pair of them.

Women's 4 way was good. Great build and video package. Could have given them more than 10 minutes, but the Statlander win was a genuine shock and I found it refreshing to see a title change unexpectedly. 7 months is a long enough run for Storm and she's faced and beaten just about everyone at this point anyway.

Ladder match was average. They only had 3 or 4 spots and every team just repeated them to pad it out. One team does a tope, the next team does one, the next team does one. One team does a fall off the ladder, the next team does, the next team does. It was very paint by numbers, very sloppy. At one point Brodido and Mike Bailey were stood shouting their spot to each other on the apron. AEW needs to put the ladder matches to bed for a bit, or at least the multi-man cluster fuck ones.

Jungle Boy and Lucha are admittedly better as a team, but their reunion was kind of spoiled when they brought Luchasaurus back first for no reason.

Glad Hangman retained but I don't think it was ever in doubt. Fine main event, though the top rope deadshot was dumb. 

Overall I thought it was a pretty average PPV. If anything it highlighted some of the worst of AEW - botched finishes, needless hardcore spots and clusterfuck ladder matches full of spot calling, matches going long for no reason other than they can. It seemed everyone got to say Fuck at least once last night too. Most of the matches are fine, with only the opening tag being bad and the Eddie Kingston match being shockingly bad, and I'm sure the Unified Title will be MOTN so I'll make sure to watch that at some point.
I didn't like the look of the card going in but Triller were doing a combo deal on this and Wrestledream so bought it last minute. Shouldn't have bothered but I'd still rather have paid for this and not enjoyed it than watched WrestlePalooza so there's that at least.

Good show but the again the pacing of it needs to be sorted out, from the opening of the Tailgate Brawl show to Hanger leaving the entrance way it ran for 6 hours with very little breaks between. Tony still doesn’t seem to grasp that not every show needs to be 13/14 matches long, chop out half the pre show card and 2/3 of the PPV one and you’ll have a solid 9/10 matches and at least 90 mins saved

From the card I’d have cut out the Opps/Workhorsemen tag match and the last min Trios match from the pre show/Collision and Eddie/Big Bill, the TBS title match and the Hurt Syndicate/Demand match

Call me old fashioned but a plastic bag over someone’s head and stomping on it has no place on a wrestling show. 
 

As with every AEW show I watch it was a mix of great, too long, or unnecessarily edgelord.

Yeah, agreed - Moxley and Darby bring out the worst in one another as far as my personal tastes are concerned.

Overall some really good stuff on the show. Enjoyed the ladder match, Hangman/Kyle and the Triple Threat particularly. I know Eddie Kingston’s gimmick is that he’s a common man or whatever but he looked absolutely awful here. In dreadful shape and completely botching the finish. Again as is the norm with these shows they could do with cutting the number of matches down in a bit. Really good show though on the whole.

Not that I’m a fan of it, but it’s a spot that’s been done before and for me their are worse things I’ve seen on a wrestling show (Bossman being hung from WM XV immediately comes to mind)

That’s good selling. When you saw the reverse angle you can see he was released and he took the bump on his shoulders not neck.

As to the show itself, solid 7/10. I agree that some of the matches were not really necessary to be on the card. And I think they need to aim for a 4 hour main card, not 5. But I thought the main, 3 way and both women’s matches were really good. Cope’s Cena tribute just seemed to be someone not understanding what AEW is. Kingston, great as it was to see him back, stinker of a match. Jurassic Express reunion? I’m here for it. In Killswitches return vignette I told my friend I thought that surgeon was old jungle jack, so I’m glad to see I was right on that. 
 

Overall very good, not great for me.
