Fog Dude Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 The final scores were up in the opening post... well, only last night actually, since we didn't have a full set until yesterday mid-morning and Tuesdays are usually quite busy for me. Big scorelines and favourites winning meant way more one-pointers than normal, with both spot-on guesses coming from the top three (one in the D2D game and the other in the wildcard match, inevitably). Vegeta saves his leader's position in the table by amassing a whopping five points from a single fixture, namely the Dutch victory over Ireland: three for a correct scoreline and then two more because the random selector threw out #9 this week. TildeGuy is definitely his main challenger now though, just a point behind after gathering eight bonus points when half the other participants wrongly disagreed with his D2D bet. Obviously a national team is a valid choice of team, but it does narrow down the options somewhat. Even though it was a one-sided affair with an expected winner in the end, I was just pleased we managed to squeeze a competitive game at a major finals into an acceptable timeframe for this competition. We could've easily ended up with a qualifier that feels like a training exercise, or even a friendly. Vietnam (a place for which we've apparently got a correspondent on this forum, though he doesn't like to mention it) are no mugs, having taken one of the few available East Asian spots on offer in Australia. Perhaps reigning champion ultimo is unlucky not to be in the equation as well, since he got Japan's exact scoreline right to go back ahead of Stinky Dad again, but sadly he's cut adrift from the pacesetting duo. As am I at the other end, Chutney Spoon taking full advantage of another terrible performance to move a full 26 points clear of the wooden spoon place. Anyway, elsewhere comfortable triumphs for Scotland, Bulgaria and Wales (in a less narrow clash than when I saw same fixture played up here in Bangor over a decade ago) plus a closer one for Turkey all proved fruitful, alongside eventual VAR-assisted progress for Chelsea reserves at the Cae Ras building site. A stalemate at Ibrox, an upset by a wide margin at East End Park and a score draw at the London Olympic ground didn't deter people completely, with the right result picked at least a couple of times in each case. A couple of normal rounds to come before the next men's international break - immediately followed by another blank weekend for the EPL - so in the meantime, let's make the most of it. A relatively ordinary new card should be coming up in the initial post in short order. Quote

Fog Dude Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 (edited) The results went into the original post back at their usual time of Sunday night, but having a more normal round didn't help the table much. The only movement saw Rory move back ahead of worst performer MVP RULZ lower down the standings, with the former being top scorer this time despite not even getting into double figures. Below that, Chutney Spoon also managed two exact scores to go a whopping 29 points clear of last place. At the summit, Vegeta did the bare minimum needed to hit the 300 mark for the season, thereby extending his lead over TildeGuy to two points. The randomly selected "wildcard" fixture was match #6 at Old Trafford, which you'd think might've been gettable as it went with the form book, but nobody hit the spot-on scoreline and four participants didn't even get the correct result. Elsewhere, there was no real pattern to the scattergun guesses, with only Chelsea women's triumph in their League Cup (which they probably won't even allowed to defend next season) proving somewhat fruitful. Draws at Turf Moor, Selhurst Park and the City Ground were also quite good for one-pointers, but Man City and Liverpool both dropping points, a home defeat for Chelsea's men and an away win in the MLS were outcomes that caught most people out. That last league is of course still early on in its season because it runs on a calendar year, which means it's one that's been able to provide us with a couple of potential matches for the embryonic 2026/27 campaign, whose skeleton spreadsheet was begun in earnest a few days ago. The good news is that we get a bit of a breather after the longest World Cup ever, and that the first international break doesn't disrupt us until Week 6 at the end (as opposed to the beginning) of September. The bad news is that first momentum-stopper runs for a fortnight, then later in the season, for only the second time I can recall since I've been running this, the spring men's international round is the same weekend as the Easter double header, so we'll have to cobble together a Frankenstein's monster of a round in about a year's time consisting of Euro 2028 qualifiers, men's lower division matches and major women's club games. Anyhow, another league that works on a calendar year basis will feature in a D2D before season's end, but this weekend we've got a less obtuse pick to deal with, so you can find out where that's taking us in a new set of 10 in the first post very soon.
