Love that last matchup...

Might have to get used to it as China's century wears on. Anyhow, as promised, here's the final standard update while it's still May in the western hemisphere. As expected, Vegeta comfortably holds onto top spot in the table and smashes through the 400-point barrier. TildeGuy actually got more exact scorelines this week but slips a further point behind to leave the final gap at a nice round 20, while the only movement involves weekly top scorer Gooner proving he's the best of the rest outside of the podium places, with a trio of three-pointers as the sole other participant into double figures.

That means MVP RULZ and Chutney Spoon each move down a rung right at the last moment, whilst at the other end, Rory had nothing to worry about in terms of avoiding the wooden spoon. Last week the gap between first and last was 99 points, and it's now up to 106. I should've quit while I was ahead, since I couldn't even use this "bumper" round to make it to 300 points. Proof that choosing the fixtures doesn't give you any additional foresight! That one time I actually won feels like a different lifetime at this point.

Two finals going to penalties understandably caught most people out, as did Sevco women (who had The Double in their hands a fortnight ago) choking at Hampden. Victory for Man City ladies plus the outcomes in Sweden and Finland were generally good for one-pointers, with the single Norwegian result proving most fruitful of all in a weekend of slightly disappointingly low scoring. Final scores in Brazil and the People's Republic also ended up tough to guess beforehand.

Right, the opening post's been brought up to date with just one bit of tidying up left to do in midweek. For that usual Wednesday round-up slot, there'll be the embedded final classification plus details about the start of next season. See you all then.

Cheers for the kind words from Chutney Spoon and our new champion. I'm due to be in Dublin in 48 hours so let's put this to bed before I miss the ferry and/or it drags into next week. Here's how it all ended up this season just gone:

I can only get the thumbnail to embed so not sure how much you can all see of it. What can we glean from it anyway? Vegeta predictably dominates the left-hand side, though runner-up TildeGuy was the nearest to reaching 200 one-pointers, and was close when it came to overall correct results as well (246 vs 245). Both the leading duo averaged over nine points per round and ultimo wasn't far off either.

Over in the other half of the standings, MVP RULZ would've avoided finishing there if only he'd had a bit more luck with bonus points. Stinky almost dropped out right at the end but, although I don't count partial missed weeks, stayed with us despite skipping two full rounds. Had he made picks in time his average suggests he'd have made it to fourth place, and almost certainly avoided getting the smallest number of right outcomes (193 vs 198 for me). He was a full 20 one-pointers behind Rory when it came to the lowest amount of those, mind.

I, meanwhile, got the third biggest haul of bonuses yet still ended up a full quarter century of points away from shaking off the wooden spoon spot. Hope to do better next season, which will begin on the weekend of 15th/16th August, so expect the new thread to get underway a few days before that. I'll include matches from the Charity Community Shield, Championship, first knockout round of the Scots League Cup (for which the group stage draw was already made last week!) and some competition on the continent or another.

Before that, a separate sign-up thread will have to go live at some point. Could be late-ish July, depends on how I feel unless somebody else wants to have a go. Thanks for playing, either relax and turn your mind to something else for a couple of months, or else enjoy the 26 games across Canada and Mexico over the following six weeks. Apparently England and Scotland qualified but strangely don't seem to have any guaranteed fixtures? That confusion and mystery is the reason we take time off over the summer. See you all on the other side!
