Scoring was a little on the low side, and yet the all-important gaps between first and second & between penultimate and last both get bigger when we really needed the opposite to happen. Joint top scorers Gooner and MVP RULZ both overtake Stinky and Chutney Spoon, while TildeGuy was once more the worst performer at precisely the wrong time of the season for a title challenger. The randomly selected "wildcard" fixture was match #4 at The City Ground, which yielded a pair of bonus points each for the aforementioned duo plus the guy I'm chasing to try to avoid the wooden spoon, Rory. They all managed an exact scoreline where nobody else even guessed the right outcome. Other correct picks generally included wins for Brighton, Celtic and Barcelona's men plus Man City women, while a deserved away victory in Vienna, a home reverse for Fulham, a stalemate on Wearside and a score draw in Lanarkshire caught a lot of participants cold. A dramatic Sunday at Wembley went all the way to spot kicks with only Gooner at least getting one point from that and saving us from a dud. It's the time of year for lots of finals, so he'll have a chance to deny Vegeta a probable Double this coming weekend in our own FPL Cup, and we're going back to Wembley straight away both Saturday and Sunday as part of the next set of 10, which should go live at the top of the thread in a few moments. Fog Dude Posted May 20 Author Posted May 20 The final scores went up in the first post on Sunday night, and unfortunately if late-season excitement's what you're after, they were very much on the low side. Nobody even close to double figures, and only three exact scorelines guessed correctly in total. Top scorer Rory moves a further point clear of me at the bottom of the table, while a rare bad performance by Gooner (in a very good week for the side he supports) sees him lose the FPL Cup Final to @Vegeta who maintains his whopping 23-point lead. The former had finished higher in the group stage and beaten the champion-elect 9-6 back in November, but faltered when it really counted this weekend. Commiserations to him but I'm sure he'll get over it now Arsenal are EPL champs once again. We're lucky the scoring wasn't even lower this time out, because the randomly selected "wildcard" fixture was match #1, i.e. the FA Cup final, where a majority of participants at least picked the right outcome to nab a bonus point each. It dawned on me just the other day that the old pic of the FPL trophy went poof with UK access to imgur back in September, and I can't find it on any hard drive, USB stick or in the Cloud, so I made up a new (and equally naff) one. Away from such silliness, wins for Man Utd men and Barcelona women topped and tailed the rest of the card, and were the sole other results to prove even remotely fruitful. Elsewhere, you had West Ham doing themselves no favours, the Trophy final going all the way to spot kicks, four teams (two at home, two on the road) unexpectedly dropping points in the race for Europe and Hearts potentially throwing away another league title to the Old Firm with a stalemate on their own patch. Unsurprisingly all of those turned out to be difficult to foresee. The next round is the last chance for any bonus points, in whatever ends up as the "wildcard" game. I doubt it'll move the needle in terms of who finishes first and last but we'll soldier on regardless with a new card in the opening post in a few minutes. Quote
