The one downside to this would be losing Christian as a top heel - Copeland needs Christian far more than the opposite, in my opinion. I’d also love to see Christian win the World title before his run in AEW is over. Despite being widely dismissed when joining the company, he’s ended up being one of their best ever signings. While I don’t typically believe in giving wrestlers a world title win because they deserve it, I’d make an exception in this case. 

They won't (but I'd love them to) take a page out of the Sting/Lex Luger relationship in 1995/6 where Christian is still a bit of an arsehole, but to Copeland he's a mate so he tolerates it. Could be fun as Christian is at his world best when he's a heel but also a funny dickhead about it. I dunno. But the team is where it should go now. I'm not too bothered about either winning the big one, but yeah AEW Christian has been a real triumph. Shown himself as a much more diverse worker than Cope and whilst getting a bit over with the dead Dad stuff, absolutely never leaned into showing the crowd he enjoyed it. Just stayed as a prick heel. He's top banana as Blue Tulip Rose Read would say.

I don't know about this, I don't think AEW is about - or should be about - a gratitude run for time served in other companies. Like I say, I think they've moved past that.

That's not to say they shouldn't do all the great things that the above approach would include, like matches with the Bucks or whoever, I just mean they should have a plan for what the endpoint is. Who is the future plan for the tag division, who is the AEW team you're using this run for and how do you get to the point that they beat Edge and Christian.

That's my main point. I think the era of hiring or using ex WWE guys simply for their name or novelty value is over, and the company just need to know how AEW benefit long term from these things as and when they choose to do them.

While I do agree with the sentiment, I don’t think an Edge/Christian tag title run would be a gratitude run for their time served in WWE. While I don’t think this could be said about Copeland, Christian feels about as ‘AEW’ as anyone on that roster. He’s not the Christian that he was in WWE, or the Christian we saw TNA. When his career is said and done, I can’t imagine anyone not citing this as his best ever run. 

With that in mind, if it’s gratitude for anything, it’s for what Christian has done for AEW. If one final run with his pal in a tag team is something he wants, he’s definitely earned it.

Again, I totally agree. They need to start filling up the tag division again, and I’d like to see them create more original teams, much as they did with Men of the Year, The Acclaimed, Sting and Darby and Swerve In their Glory. There are loads of wrestlers toiling away on the undercard who could become big stars in the tag division.

Look at what The Young Bucks managed to drag out of a completely washed Hardy Boys. The Bucks vs. Edge and Christian is still a genuine dream match.

Regarding the Cash-In, I don’t think there’s anything inherently flawed with AEW doing it. The problem was all in the execution. The crowd woke up when Christian appeared. People would have popped big for a Title change. Similar to Brock vs. Roman at Wrestlemania, when Seth cashed in. Nobody remembers anything other than the cash-in, which is remembered fondly.

The problem was that it all counted for fuck all, they took the least exciting route, and we’re back at square one. As mentioned before, it’s that dark, depressing, unsatisfying feeling you used to get at the tail end of Vince McMahon produced pay per views. A real sense of, “ah, fuck off,”

Such a shame considering the run they were on. Go back to The Fed, Ambrose!

I dunno, on his day, Moxley is brilliant and as much as I dislike this current run, I still think there are potentially plenty of great Moxley moments in AEW ahead of us. His feud and general relationship with Eddie Kingston is still one of my favourite things AEW has done. 

That said, I’d not be against Moxley returning to WWE, and I’d be intrigued as to whether he’d return as Ambrose, or retain the Moxley name. Either way, I think he’d be booked like ‘Jon Moxley’ rather than Dean Ambrose. Minus the brutally violent death matches, of course.

Yeah this made me wince, but watching it back I think by hitting the DVD Ricochet was trying to protect him. Once he didn't catch him he nearly dropped him on his said so I think trying to turn it into the bump might have helped. I thought at the time I heard Sweve call "go", but I might have imagined it. 

The angel wings onto MJF's face was not pretty either!

I think he just needs to realise (or someone to make him realise) that this character does not work for him. I think Moxley works best as a tweener leaning towards a face. When he came back from rehab all fresh faced, white shirted and reinvigorated he was great.

Yeah I like him more in the role that you mentioned. Bit of a hard arse with an occasional hint at some weird humour, tightly wound, only has one proper mate.

Eddie has the authenticity that Moxley craves. I don't want Eddie dragged down by Moxley.

Good show!

Thoughts:

- Hangman/MJF was great. Cool story here of Hanger trying to brute force his way through but MJF using every dirty trick in the book to stay ahead of the game until he ran out of steam and Hanger merked him (that Angels Wings onto the face was brutal!). Hopefully there's more to this story.

- Mone/Momo was a fine, nothing match. Horrendous kick to Mone's jaw in this.

- Ricochet/Swerve was brilliant. Ricochet is such a magnificent prick. "I'M WINNING!" he's fully dedicated to being an unlikeable dweeb and it works very well. They threw in just enough Nana stuff to plant some great seeds of doubt. Swerve is the fucking man.

- Tag titles. Hurt Business should have just fucking steamrolled through the Outrunners in 3 minutes tops really. Andretti and Rush at ringside...as if they have a chance against the Hurt Business!

- Okada/Brody was actually pretty decent but just felt like one match too many. 

- Hollywood Ending was everyone with a brain knows should have finished the show. Personally I think it could have done with 5 more minutes of brawling at the start before they got to the big stuff but regardless a tremendous display of violence and emotion. Is this the first "broken bottle to the fanny" spot in wrestling? What a tremendous snd unique piece of work these two brilliant women have put together over the past year. I'm almost sad to see it end. One of the best stories in wrestling ever.

- going in I didn't really want to see another mental spotfest from Omega/Takeshita like their last singles match so I was really pleased with how this one went. Omega may have lost a step but his abdominal injuries are a good in character cover for it and means he can convincingly work it into every match going forwards. They worked it perfectly here. Omega selling his guts out trying to outlast this beast of a man Takeshita. The selling and emotion in this made it mean more than their last bout. Omega gets the win, but fucking hell just barely.

- Fletcher/Ospreay was predictably fucking insane but I think they filled out the spaces between the bonkers stuff with enough ugly brawling, scraping, clawing and desperate selling that it all meant something and wasn't a mindless stunt show. Could have done with less blood licking personally though. Fletcher's pathetic begging with the United Empire arm band then using it to clear up his blood and stuff it in Ospreay's mouth was gross but inspired. Epic stuff. AEW really know how to end a feud. 

- after all that it was pretty impossible for me to care about Cope/Mox. For what it's worth, the in ring action was actually pretty decent for the most part. But fundamentally if the World title programme is the least interesting part of the show that's a problem that needs solving. I think some of the reactions to this are a bit over the top though. I had fun with it while knowing I don't really give a shit. 

- so how to solve the main event title scene issue? Just give the title to Stone Cold Swerve Strickland. It's just so fucking obvious. He's the coolest motherfucker in wrestling. Strap him up. An absolute no brainer.

Overall an incredible PPV with 4 or 5  amazing matches. Toni vs Mariah 100% should have ended the show though.

The Tag title match was pretty crap, I like The Outrunners but they looked a bit out their depth in there unfortunately. Don't think it was the right time to give them a PPV title shot, Hurt Syndicate are so cool and so over it was always going to hurt the crowd reaction for the Outrunners and without that crowd support they were knackered.

And of course the main event was rubbish sadly. For almost the entire night it felt like watching a great modern AEW PPV with all these exciting popular stars and then the main event was like something out of 2011 WWE. It just felt completely like two stars out of a different more boring era having a slow plodding match to near silence.   I don't think Edge or Christian should be World Champ in 2025 so I'm not arsed about neither of them winning it but the match itself was boring and Mox is so so stale at the minute. I'm not even as anti Moxley as most but I have to admit he's stinking the place up, everything else in AEW seems to be really firing on all cylinders and then you've got him. 

I loved everything else on the show.

They need to get the title off Mox and onto Swerve ASAP. I'm hoping them ending the show with Swerve standing tall was a sign of that, the plan may have been for Darby Allin to be the one to beat Mox at ALL IN but they have to change their mind. We can't have Moxley as World champ for another 4 or 5 months and to be honest Swerve is so cool and so over and so great he should be World Champ regardless. He's the man.

I rate Mox. Despite his current form. Always surprised to hear people talk as if he’s always been shit. I just don’t see it at all. He’s been excellent in AEW overall. Carried the company countless times. Man helped keep me sane during the Pandemic. It’s still time though. It happens to everyone. You eventually outgrow the territory and it’s time to jump ship. Cody knew. Jericho must know. Mox should know.

Considering the new gravitas they’ve placed on Seth turning on The Shield, framing it as this huge Nexus event that created the Tribal Chief, I think Moxley would be fantastic in modern day WWE. That sense of madness when The Shield’s music hit at Mania 40, only Dean Ambrose actually does walk out? Would be up there as one of the biggest angles they could do right now.

In other news, The Hollywood Ending was reportedly only thirteen minutes long! Incredible. Up there with Punk and Kingston’s eleven minute masterpiece.
