I don't consider the Lo Down the same as the frogsplash.

The funny being that Eddy did the frog splash as a tribute to Art Barr, but I always thought the Lo Down was closer to how Love Machine did it than Eddys way!

they not only allowed Eddy to keep the frogsplash when RVD had it,

Thing is, RVD came in when Eddy wasn’t with the company, so there was no “that’s Eddy’s move” to preclude him bringing the Five Star Frog Splash with him. Would have been akin to, earlier in the same year, telling Kurt not to adopt the ankle lock just in case they ever persuaded Ken Shamrock to come back. Conversely when Eddy came back it would have been weird for him to return without his established finish. There’s a subtle difference between a Paul London coming in from indies and having the same finish as someone that’s been on the books for a couple of years, and a former Intercontinental champ coming back. If anything, the incumbent ICT holder using a similar finish was a happy coincidence and further reason for Eddy to target Van Dam immediately, on top of his gold.

If we’re getting into minor details of execution… is the difference between the Five Star and Guerrero’s version much more minor than between Eddys and the Lo Down?

but they had them feud over the move, after which neither guy stopped using it, meaning there was no bloody point anyway.

Point. Though winning the rivalry and coming out with the title should have been enough, enmity over using the same/similar finish needn’t always end with the loser banned from using it by a stip. See Styles Clash vs Rave Clash in ROH for an example of that done well, IMHO. Years later I’d pine for a similarly stipulated Styles Clash vs Faithbreaker (ugh).

As a further tangent, I always hoped DDP would come out of retirement for a short match with “Legend Killer” Orton, RKO vs Diamond Cutter.

I discussed Tamina Snuka on this forum the other day and there's my nomination, I have never met anyone who actually liked her, let alone their favorite.

While probably true, my interest is in the people who are someone’s surprising favourite. Unless anyone reading wants to beat their tam-tam in support of Tam??

Tamina 100% knows where bodies are buried. She's officially retired now but The Rock personally signed her to a legends contract after "an oversight allowed Triple H to let her contract expire".
She was done and out the door, another reasons HHH should go in the Hall of Fame, and The Rock swooped in and signed her back.

I dunno - they made Goldust change his finish several times from what it was during his initial run, just because Reverend Devon was doing the lifting reverse DDT, and he was a former IC champ, and quite well remembered as well. A friend of mine who grew up with Attitude Goldust was flummoxed when he tuned in for the first time in years and saw him doing some weird version of the Rude Awakening.

I think so. Partly because I remember people referring to the Lo Down and splashes like it as a "Flying Squirrel Splash", which it does look more like. RVD's and Eddy’s finishes look the same until the impact really.

That's true. Very good point.

Yeh, I always wondered why they never did that.

The smark in me also hoped that they might do a mini-feud between Orton and Johnny Ace, where Ace says something like "I invented that move and you stole it, so I'm going to train someone up to beat you with it", and then have a few lower-carders challenge him unsuccessfully (maybe one tries to hit it and fails, another hits it but it's completely ineffective), before DDP came out and said "Ace invented it, but I perfected it", and they feud from there. It's completely a smark's thinking, and would never have happened in WWE back then.

Is that really the reason? I never heard/read that.

The Final Cut was ace.

Y'know what? I have to own up and say it was an assumption on my part - it seemed to be the only possible explanation at the time. It was definitely the case that that was Devon's finish when Goldust came back. He's never done the Curtain Call since. I quite like the Electric Dreams that he does now, or whatever it's called.

I thought the Final Cut was the Big Show's version of Eye of the Hurricane?

He did call it that, yes. I'll be honest, my 2002 is a little foggy so I'm not 100% whether "The Final Cut" for Goldie's sublime suplex lift into elevated Ego Trip was actually what they called it, or if its a video game name.

That's the move I like - I was fairly sure they called it the Electric Dreams. I remember when he did it for the first time in WWeCw, it was a bit pony, because it just looked like a twisting vertical suplex, but after a few more goes, it looked like how it does now.

For someone who had one of the more impressive looking finishers in the business with his huge Show Stopper, Big Show has quite a few tried-and-failed finishers over the years. Th Final Cut, The Alleyoop, The Final Cut thing he did with the leg drop across the chest, the Cobra Clutch backbreaker, the Punch, and the fabled moonsault.

Was called the Hog Lock in the games, stupid name.

Yeh, I never understood why he changed it so often. The WMD is the only other finisher that's stuck really. Think I heard something about nobody wanting to take the Show Stopper, but someone else can confirm/deny.

Only person I know with anywhere near as many finishers was Edge, and it seemed like he was really only doing them because there was always someone else doing a Spear, which was what he really wanted.

Maybe Regal?

The Hog Log!

I loved the Alleyoop, and I'm surprised more people haven't adopted it since. I assume Show either wanted to prove that he could do more than generic big man stuff, or else he wanted to protect his knees from the Showstopper without just pivoting to doing a regular Chokeslam all the time.

I feel like Goldust had a hundred finishers all called either the Final Cut or the Curtain Call, though that might just be JR calling whatever move Dustin happened to be using that week the same thing.

He also used the Shattered Dreams as a finisher at one point, in the same style as Regal's Power of the Punch - making sure the ref didn't see.

EDIT: Just found this clip of his finishes - does anyone remember him doing a Cobra Clutch called "Good Night Sweet Charlotte"? Because I don't. Some other weird ones in there too.

I saw that move called the "Oscar" on a Wiki, and I had never seen it referred to that anywhere before. I like seeing confirmation that the Neckbreaker was also called the Curtain Call, though! Director's Cut feels like another name he used for multiple moves too, as it rings a bell but I don't remember it ever being what he called his Powerslam.

Bizarrely, between the commentary on that video and Wiki, it sounds like that Cobra Clutch (which I also have no memory of) was actually called, in full, "Hush Hush Good Night Sweet Charlotte". Must be a reference to something, but I've got no idea.

I enjoyed the text saying "Golden Cross" while the commentary on the clip just called it the Cross Rhodes. I don't think I've ever heard anyone call it the Golden Cross.

It's one of Bette Davis' more critically acclaimed films, though that's called "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte".
