Does Alex Abrahantes work in merchandising or something? If not, we're going to have to have a difficult conversation.

He definitely does work backstage. Believe he used to for ROH back in the day as well (or PWG? hard to remember). And that's also in-between him selling Dell computers on QVC of course. Spoilers for his QVC gig, he does not translate what the laptops and PC's are saying.

There's even more there to shitcan than I thought, looking at the roster page I can pick multiple people out of each row.
I haven't watched properly in over a year now though so someone will have to let me know if any of these picks are actually doing anything of note these days.

Aaron Solo
Action Andretti
Alex Abrahantes
Angelico
Anthony Ogogo
AR Fox
Ariya Daivari
Bishop Kaun
Brandon Cutler (I think he's an EVP or at least a lifer though)
Chris Jericho
Colt Cabana
Dante Martin
Darius Martin
Griff Garrison
Johnny TV
Josh Woods
Keith Lee
Kip Sabian
Lee Johnson
Matt Sydal
Undisputed Kingdom, shite.
Michael Nakazawa
Miro
Nick Comoroto
Paul Wight
Peter Avalon
Preston Vance
Scorpio Sky
Serpentico
Shawn Dean
Tao Liona

That's me being generous and giving the benefit of the doubt to some of the luchas I don't know and some of the people I would have chosen if they weren't some form of ROH Champion. I also didn't pick any women as the roster is barebones to begin with and I couldn't even start to tell you who is who for the most part.
Even if you don't agree with some of them, that's enough names to fill a roster nevermind pick as chaff from the actual roster to cut.

I think it's slightly worrying though how many stars have left, or are trying to leave allegedly because they either don't like Tony Khan, don't like working for the company or were embroiled in backstage bullshittery. Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Britt Baker, Ricky Starks, Penta, Rey Fenix to name a few. Some of those are names you don't want to run out your door.
I'm not saying it would get me to tune in if all these people were cut, but narrowing the roster down and focusing on the ones left surely couldn't be a bad thing.

Dante Martin
Darius Martin

There was a point when I really thought Dante Martin might end up becoming something in AEW, he’s tremendous fun to watch in ring, and his high-flying is genuinely spectacular. I think he’d end up becoming a real stand-out if he’s ever picked up by NXT. His mic skills need work, but there’s definitely something there with him.

Ah screw it, if it takes my mind off Trump’s presidency, it’s worth doing. Here’s who I reckon they could get rid of without most AEW viewers even noticing. This isn’t  who I’d personally dump, though - I just don’t think most viewers would even realise any of these people have gone. I’ve not included people with backstage roles.

Aaron Solo
Abadon
Action Andretti
Alex Reynolds
Angelo Parker
Anthony Ogogo
AR Fox
Athena
Bandido
Billie Starkz
Bishop Kaun
Brit Baker
The Blade
Boulder
Bronson
The Butcher
Carlie Bravo
Cole Karter
Danhausen
Dante Martin
Darius Martin
Diamante
Dralistico
Dutch
EJ Nduka
Emi Sakura
Griff Garrison
Hologram
James Drake
Jay Lethal
John Silver
Johnny TV
Kamille
Keith Lee
Kiera Hogan
Kip Sabian
Komander
Kota Ibushi
Lee Johnson
Lee Moriarty
Leila Gray
Leyla Hirsch
Lio Rush
Mark Davis
Marshall Von Erich
Matt Sydal
Miro
Nick Comoroto
Nyla Rose
Ortiz
Peter Avalon
Preston Vance
Queen Aminata
Rachael Ellering

Red Velvet
Riho
Ricky Starks
Rocky Romero
Ross Von Erich

Sammy Guevara
Satnam Singh

Serena Deeb
Serpentico
Shane Taylor
Shawn Dean
Taya Valkyrie

I don't disagree on the major roster bloat and would cut quite a few people myself. My list doesn't include people listed on the roster page but who have other main jobs for AEW.  Angelico, Alex Abrahantes, Ariya Daivari, Brandon Cutler, Colt Cabana Peter Avalon, Rocky Romero, Serpentico. They're primarily commentators/producers/coaches/talent relations guys etc. who wrestle dark matches/lower card/ROH appearances on the side. I'd say using people with other roles in the company as lower card jobbers is actually the opposite of roster bloat.

However, of the people who ARE full time wrestlers I'd still cut quite a few:

Aaron Solo, one of the most boring pro wrestlers of all time.

Action Andretti. I do not care for Action Andretti. I may have mentioned this before.

Anthony Ogogo is a debatable one. I liked him as an enforcer for Shane Taylor Promotions and he's actually a decent heel talker. I'd maybe move him into another role rather than cut him.

Boulder and Bronson. The Iron Savages are my most hated act in all of pro wrestling. It was nice to see on the roster page that Jacked Jameson isn't a full time employee at least.

Bryan Keith. Not sure why he was hired in the first place.

Butcher and Blade. I quite like the team and I don't mind Butcher as a singles guy, but I wouldn't be excited for them to come back. Butcher also seems slow and off the pace in the few appearances he makes these days. Think their time is done.

Carlie Bravo. The Infantry are a crushingly dull act. Would cut Shawn Dean as well but, as previously mentioned, he has a backstage role sourcing jobbers for Dutch to Bossman Slam. That's a respectable profession and I support it.

Cole Karter. He's like a really shit version of Austin Theory, if you can even imagine such a thing.

Dante Martin, Darius Martin. Feels bad as I, like many others, saw much potential in Dante for a time there. They're a perfectly fine tag team but they have stagnated so much and their music now triggers the same chemical reaction in my brain as the Coronation Street opening theme. I fucking hate Coronation Street.

Griff Garrison. I think if I tried to explain why I'd fall asleep thinking about it.

Lee Johnson. Imagine Ricochet's worst babyface promo and know that it is better than Lee Johnson's best. He is a handsome young man who can do very impressive things in the ring but he has overwhelmingly powerful anti-charisma. You'd think being married to Julia Hart might give you a little confidence boost, but alas no.

Marshall Von Erich. Significantly better than the other one. I understand the name value and the appeal in the relevant markets, but if it was my call I'd shitcan the pair of them.

Matt Sydal. Not sure if he's also pivoting into some kind of coach/experienced head role. If he's just a wrestler then yeah, I'd get rid at this point.

Preston Vance. Zzzzzzzzz....

Ross Von Erich. He is very very bad at pro wrestling. I genuinely thought "oh he's just starting out but Tony's put him on TV as a novelty because the Iron Claw movie's coming out and he has the name value etc." Then I find out he was trained by Harley Race, Kevin Von Erich and Naomichi Marufuji and has been wrestling for TWELVE YEARS. Absolutely astonishing.

Sammy Guevara. I just don't see it ever happening for Sammy. He has some of the pieces. He's a good looking guy, has impressive athleticism, can be a decent smarmy heel, but he doesn't really seem to get it. He can't make me care with promos or matches and he shows no signs of getting any better.

Scorpio Sky. Obviously.

Wardlow. I think we've seen the best he can do and there were flashes/hints of something there but it didn't happen and I don't see it happening. I'd also much rather see the sort of push he would need be given to a Takeshita or Powerhouse Hobbs.

Zak Knight. Shite.

Will have a look at the women's roster tomorrow.

I didn’t write them all down, but I looked through that roster on Wikipedia, got to 58 people I would cut. (If they’ve got back office jobs, keep them but take them off the active roster page.)

Instead of cutting them all I say BRING BACK DARK! Shove them all on there doing pointless matches for 3 hours each week while Excalibur and Taz talk random bollocks throughout.

I never saw the appeal until recently, but I think he’s actually quite funny as the X-rated Scrappy Doo, calling everyone a motherfucker. As with all of Jericho’s factions the past few years, if you removed Jericho himself there’d actually be a good act there. Big Bill and Little Bri would make a great little tag team, motherfucker!

You’re all sleeping on Scorpio Sky. Six or seven more botched returns, where they air a random vignette on Collision and then he vanishes again for another six months, and things are really going to turn around!

One of my favourite JR in AEW moments was when Sky first went heel and did some guest commentary. It was the absolute shits, full of the most lame, cringe and cliche heel lines you could possibly manage and when at the end of the segment it cut to a shot of Sky at the commentary table JR just looks so fucking pissed off with it all I burst out laughing.
