I think the roles Hyan and Maya currently have are pretty much what Newell/Alize would have ended up doing, to begin with, anyway. The Acclaimed had a similar start in AEW, losing matches before gaining some momentum.

They’d have ended up signed for sure, and getting very over. A real-life couple as a tag team is the kind of thing AEW’s more liberal fan base would have loved and would have allowed for some unique storytelling. They had a very good chance to succeed, their decision to blow a very real opportunity like that was incredibly silly.

On the subject of The Acclaimed, have they completely dropped that story?! Caster and Bowens deserve better than that.

They're continuing the story with great hilarious skits but they only seem to be posting them on their social media rather than on TV.

Here's one.

I imagine it’s been a casualty of the Continental Classic, but even so, I’m sure there’s something they could have eliminated to keep it going. I’m at the point where I’d actually quite like to see them reunite, Copeland and Christian vs The Acclaimed is a match I’d really like to see. I still think there’s unrealised potential with them as far as singles runs go, but being pals again doesn’t necessarily mean that can’t still happen.

Here's one.

They did a skit on the stage during the Collision Taping in Cardiff. Not sure if it was just for the live audience though.

What's the betting a women's continental classic/championship is just around the corner?

I'd quite like to see the tournament to be fair with some of the talent they have, but not if its to introduce another belt.

I’d be up for a tournament, but not for a Continental belt equivalent. I’m totally OK with them putting the TBS title on the line as part of this, a World title shot or even the World title itself. As good as the men’s CC is, it gets a little more underwhelming when you consider what the prize is.

Put a bet on it happening. The odds will be so long it could pay out higher than a winning lottery ticket.

Ooh, Mercedes/Willow should be fantastic. I hope this isn’t where Mercedes’ TBS Title run ends though, not unless it closes the show at least. I think that should be the last of her many belts that she loses, and there should be a bit more build to that eventual happening.

They're also doing Moxley vs Josh Alexander, which could be really interesting - a guy who uses the anklelock as a finisher against a guy for whom that hold was up until recently kryptonite, but who has now found his mojo again - there's some interesting stuff they could do there, even before they start getting to the Don Callis Family/Death Riders drama of it all.

I don't know where the Death Riders go after World's End - Moxley seems destined to go full babyface if he isn't already, and while some could follow him, I can't see babyface Yuta and Garcia in the immediate future, so hopefully there will be something going on there.

I don't know if Takeshita is already in Japan for Wrestle Kingdom, but there's surely some Callis Family fallout with Okada and Fletcher at least. Should hopefully be an interesting one, though AEW often struggle to carry momentum from a PPV through to TV.

Part of me hopes they’ll wind us all up by having Moxley vs Alexander be for the Continental Title, making a mockery of the whole tournament by not being able to resist and giving Josh a shot at winning it without having to go through six other matches first. I’d be furious and find it quite funny at the same time.

I mean it just makes no sense at all does it the whole Continental Classic?

Why put yourself through weeks of matches, and then two matches on the same night to win it, if any scrub can just get a title shot the following week by beating you in an eliminator?

Moxley should be Continental Champion for a year, before giving the belt back to defend in next years tournament.

Such a shame its riddled with nonsense because the tournament its self is one of my fave things about AEW.

I really enjoyed Dynamite, although that comes with the usual caveats.

Mercedes losing the belt seemed inevitable given how they built up to it on the show itself. I wish they’d done more build in the run-up to this, Mone has had a fantastic title run and her not being TBS champ is a big deal. Willow is a worthy successor, and the match was really strong. While it was nice to see her reunite with Statlander, I can’t help but feel Willow should be holding the World title and Stat should have been the one to defeat Mercedes. Statlander isn’t clicking as World Champion for me, despite the best efforts of AEW to make her feel important.

Parts of the MJF segment worked for me, others did not. It was nice to see him refer to wrestling as a ‘sport’ rather than ‘a business’, and I’m glad he was less edgelordy, but he felt very purposeless in spite of being World Champion.

Omega confronting him felt fresh and exciting, even if it was by video. The others chiming in felt less interesting, particularly Joe who is about as generic a top heel as I’ve ever seen. Page and Swerve beating up security is an AEW trope I’m absolutely fed up with.

While I didn’t mind the Cassidy/Strong/Storm/Mina/Briscoe segment, all it needed was Michael Cole cackling over it to feel like it was WWE. Storm and Orange have great chemistry though, and I hope they move her far away from Mina - the two of them have never clicked in any real way. And while I didn’t mind the segment, I did mind Strong. The name shouting can get in the bin, and so can he.

The Brodido stuff has me feeling very uneasy. I don’t want Brody King to turn on Bandido, but I think we’re heading that way. I doubt he’ll cost him the match against MJF given that he’s been promised a title shot, instead, I expect him to turn on him after losing for letting King down. But I still don’t want to see it, mainly because it puts King on track for an ROH World title match and I want to see both of those wrestlers far away from that pointless brand.

I do think King could be a very effective second to MJF if they wanted to do that, though - feeling different to Wardlow, with significantly more upside.

The abundance of men’s titles was so obviously stupid on this show, none of them serve any real purpose outside of the top belt. Imagine how significant the CC would feel if it was for the World title? Even a World title shot doesn’t feel significant enough - unless it’s to headline All In. But the Continental Belt, which is then defended any time, is like an anti-prize. What a slap in the face - you now have a title that others can win without putting in a fraction of the effort.

Moxley was crazy over though, I hope they know what’s next for him and don’t waste this.

Always a bit mad following pro-wrestling over the Christmas break. Too busy to sit and consume the shows like normal, I’m either skipping and speed watching Netflix on 1.5x speed, or seeing a backlog slowly build up as things inevitably get spoilt. I haven’t even finished World’s End yet and it already feels wildly out of date.

MJF’s Hollywood Hairline World Champion? Willow Nightingale winning the TBS Title seemingly out of nowhere? Jon Moxley a toothless top babyface? Toni Storm and Orange Cassidy forming the Ultimate Meme Dream Team? Kenny Omega going from the most thrashed he’s looked in his career, to calling for World Title shots? Did he ask Santa for some of Rey Mysterio’s Super Serum for Christmas?

Tony Khan, did you not get the memo? All my time is dedicated to smashing through boxes of Heroes! I can’t keep up! You’re supposed to pump out filler bollocks during this time of year!
