There's no way Hangman should be working together with Swerve by holding down MFJ for him. 

They should be brawling all over the arena.

I liked the one off alliance at All In but that should have been it, begruding respect in passing for each other etc, but not actively working as a team.

Yep it's pretty damning that within a week of his return MJF has immediately dragged both Hangman and Swerve down and made everyone involved look like knobheads. 

To think we could have just had a straight Swerve vs Hangman for the title feud...

I’ve just caught up with Dynamite and Collision? And I enjoyed both shows this week.

If, like me, you’re not finding MJF particularly watchable, brace yourself because I think he’s winning the title this weekend. I suspect Bandido winning the Dynamite Diamond has been done to set up a match or feud with Max for the belt.

i hope I’m wrong, going from boring top heel Joe to boring top heel MJF would be mad, when Okada is kicking around in the background doing outstanding character work. It’s so obvious who should be the leading heel right now that I’m amazed Tony Khan has seemingly not noticed.

Marina Shafir was woeful in her match with Mina. She’s shown value as a non-wrestling character, so they should focus on that rather than have her wrestle. Or at the very least, have her win quickly without having to show her many weaknesses. I know she has her fans on here, but I’m not one of them.

I am a fan, however, of Gabe Kidd. I’ve no idea what his contract status is, but they need to aggressively pursue his signing. Add Kidd and Zach Sabre Jr to the AEW roster, and what a fresh, exciting upper card you would have in the men’s division. Kidd comes across as genuinely dangerous and I really like that about him. I’d love to see him there on a weekly basis, he’s very enjoyable.

 The last few CC matches were fun, although I still think they’re building Knight up as a potential player sooner than his ability level allows for it to work. I enjoy his matches, but his character work isn’t there yet. To succeed in AEW, the ability to wrestle well simply isn’t enough. We’ve seen wrestlers who lack a strong character fail time and time again at moving upwards.

I didn’t mind the MJF/Swerve/Hangman segment this week, although I didn’t love it either. It felt to me like the alliance between Swerve and Page was an uneasy one, with subtle glances and body language suggesting as much. We’ll see where it goes. I still think they’ve fucked up enormously by not going with a Hangman/Swerve title match, though. It was on a plate for them.

Statlander’s promo was probably the best she’s ever done, but the bar is quite low for her so that doesn’t say a huge amount. I don’t think they should put the title on Hayter, but I do think they need to get the belt off Stat fairly soon.

With the CC ending soon, I hope AEW and Tony Khan have a plan to keep things interesting in the new year. It all feels a bit messy at the moment, thanks to some of the strange decisions made.

Streets are saying MJF’s involvement is managing to ruin the Hangman/Swerve Cinematic Universe. Can’t say I’m surprised.  Given Max’s dog shit instincts, I imagine he’s already pitching Hangman and Swerve as co-champions after World’s End.

I feel the opposite. Can't stand Gabe Kidd and his corny, unconvincing "I'M ABSOLUTELY MAD, ME!" act. I hope they don't sign him.

Shafir meanwhile I thought looked mostly great in her match. She's clunky and awkward doing your standard wrestling spots but I don’t think she should be doing those. Her matches should be very different from everyone elses and feel like special attractions. Every time she did something that felt uniquely her it was brilliant. There was a bit where she had Mina in a painful looking Full Nelson and dragged her around each side of the crowd while shouting "They don't love you!" in her ear where I just thought - she gets it.

Dynamite was an ok show but Christmas Collision may have been one of the best shows they've ever put on. A masterpiece.

I knew you would! I feel like we’re in agreement about most things AEW at the moment, so it’s funny that we’re at such polar opposites with these two wrestlers. With Kidd, I think he’ll win you over if they do sign him. Sabre Jr is still my dream signing for the company on the men’s side, (with Bozilla being my choice on the women’s side) but Kidd isn’t far off, I think he’s very good at what he does, and I really enjoy his wrestling too. I can see why someone might not like him, though.

This, on the other hand, I don’t get! I don’t think she has the ability to wrestle a good enough match to be worth persisting with. I’d love for her to prove me wrong - mainly because I don’t think she’s going anywhere - but I think she’s rubbish.

This though, I agree with. I’m still mulling over editing my Show of the Year nominations to include it, I thought it was brilliant, but Collision pretty much always is. My only complaint is that as dramatic as the tournament is, it always feels less dramatic when you remember what’s actually at stake here. Why put yourself through all of this, when you can simply challenge for the title in a normal match at any other time of year?

In 2026, I hope they change it so that the winner gets a title shot and receives a trophy or something. It’s a shame that they’ve really perfected the tournament format with this, yet haven’t quite nailed the prize.

I agree, I love the CC until you remember what the prize is, it's the equivalent of The Rock or Mankind going through all this to win the European Title in 1998.

I have the smallest hope that Takeshita might be able to goad Okada into putting the other half of the title on the line tonight as well, and they can just reunify it. It’s still a rubbish prize but it’s better than half a rubbish prize.

Definitely with you on Zack and Bozilla. They are absolute must have signings for the company. 

Kidd, to me, just doesn't offer anything they don't already have. And his "I'm a mad man from the asylum" act is just so unconvincing. He comes across as the local annoying cokehead scaffolder off his nut in wetherspoons.

I would say it’s because they have worked hard to deserve it. The fact the opportunity they got is because of Newell is just a bonus.

I think the roles Hyan and Maya currently have are pretty much what Newell/Alize would have ended up doing, to begin with, anyway. The Acclaimed had a similar start in AEW, losing matches before gaining some momentum.
