I've met a bunch over the years that I tower over height-wise but they're so weirdly wide it kinda morphs your perception of them. I remember chatting to Drew McIntyre at an ICW show once and I had a couple of inches on him but he was like twice my width. If anything the TV cameras remove weight. It was Joe Hendry who shocked me. He’s built like a tank in person, but when he’s on TV, he looks kinda normal. I’m 6ft tall and although I don’t remember any significant difference in height, I felt tiny compared to him because of how stacked he is. Quote

digforvictory Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 (edited) Yeah that MJF Hangman segment was really shit. I enjoyed the show overall, I didn't think it was a blowaway episode of Dynamite or anything , but oof that MJF/Hangman angle was bad. I feel like almost every time they've interacted this year, including their feud earlier in the year, Hangman has dragged MJF up to his level and its been great. This felt like MJF dragged Hangman down to his. I like MJF generally but when he's bad he's really fucking bad. This came across as a silly over the top WWE angle and the fact they went back on the cashing in his contract thing is immensely annoying. I would hope Hangman wins on Sunday, MJF then attacks him after the match and "cashes in" and just when you think he's going to win the title Mark Briscoe appears to cost him the title. Mark Briscoe finally gets some revenge on MJF and we get rid of the cash in nonsense. That's probably what I'd do. MJF rarely ever loses though and so the idea of him losing twice in one night seems unlikely. Edited August 22, 2025 by digforvictory Quote

Although I didn’t mind the segment, I think MJF would be better off moving to WWE if his run of form continues. It’s been a long time since he’s done something truly interesting, and I’m not sure it’s going to happen in his current environment. As a result, he’s often a weak spot on an otherwise excellent show. I’d love for MJF to ‘find himself’ in AEW, he used to be the best part of any show, but it’s been such a long time since that were true. They simply don’t need him anymore. This is what I thought too, while holding on to some hope that they're aware of the rumours so are going to shock people by having the Syndicate take the fall, but at some point later in the show they confirmed that it would be an elimination match. I can see them doing the Taz/Tanaka/Awesome set-up and have the Hurt Syndicate shockingly eliminated early to guarantee new champions. My hope is that they recognise they have a fresh and really over new act in Brodido and strike while the iron is hot with them, but I can't shake the feeling that they moved the Cope & Christian reunion forward so that the FTR match at All Out will be for the Tag Titles, and it not seem weird that they're getting a title shot without having won any matches together. I think that's a mistake - FTR vs. C&C doesn't need the titles to make it work, unless the story is going to be that FTR are ducking them and refusing a match with them, so they become number one contenders, but I think that's adding unnecessary extra layers to a match that doesn't need it. I would put the tag belts on C&C for a short reign eventually, depending how long they are sticking around, but in my eyes you get four big money matches out of that pairing - the reunion, the blood feud match with FTR, their first tag title shot, and their retirement - and it would be a mistake to combine any two of those (that said, I would have had them reform for the FTR match and not wrestle prior to it). Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 22, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted August 22, 2025 Decent show. The crowd looked great but didn't sound great. Whether that was a mic issue or they were just a bit subdued - someone in attendance please confirm. - Decent opening promo from Ospreay. He's unpolished but that's what makes him so genuinely likeable. His absence creates a spot for a top babyface to come through - best candidates? Mark Briscoe, Takeshita, Bandido and Brody King. - I have never seen a Tanahashi match where he doesn't look in extreme pain at all times. Gabe Kidd is fucking awful with his "woah, I'm crrrrazzzzzyyy me" phony act. Mox currently on an excellent run of TV matches. - that Cope/Christian segment was pitched perfectly and was the first I've liked Copeland in ages. Christian as an utter prick that everyone begrudgingly loves is great! - Brodido/FTR was predictably excellent though the announcing of the time limit pretty much ruined the finish. I hate when they do that as it makes it clear what the ending is going to be. Also makes the wrestlers setting up table spots with 30 seconds to go look like dimwits. I would love to see Hurt Syndicate vs FTR and Hurt Syndicate vs Brodido. A three way is significantly less interesting than both those matches. - hated the MJF stuff with a passion. Hangman Page looked even more beautiful this week than he usually does and cut a great promo. He gets better every week while MJF gets worse. Wrestlers actually threatening real life murder is just always so fucking stupid. Both feuds with Mark Briscoe and Hangman started so well but have turned into the usual MJF shit. Mental that this bloke managed to get a Wembley main event with Adam Cole of all people, a double clothesline, a kangaroo kick and himself over as the top babyface in one summer. His act has regressed so much it's unbelievable. A once interesting gimmick is now so one note. - perfectly acceptable and decent main event TV tag match. The finish was booked perfectly - it got all the challengers over. Good stuff. Quote
organizedkaos Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 TBF AEW have at least tried to throw out a few time limit draw teases where someone won in the last minute (with all the requisite "X minutes remaining" announcing). I actually for a moment did think "oh this is the time limit fakeout cos they'll clearly not do a 3 way" (I'm not sure why, TK loves his multiman matches) That match was really good but it seemed like there was some jetlag/getting knackered that felt a bit noticeable in the final stretch and kept it from having that nail biting everything flowing into each other final stretch that the best versions of those matches have. It kinda works within the context of the match (jetlag and being tired exist both within kayfabe and outside of it) but I guess that lot are normally so smooth that the slightly fudged stuff stuck out more. Also fair fucks to Athena for that tope, it sounded like she cracked her head on the desk at 100 mph and she was clearly not dead when it came to the next spot. Woman's made of rubber. I really hope the match at Forbidden Door is great as she's had some (maybe deserved) negative attention for her promos but she's one of those performers that feels like she can weave these really unique, visually exciting things into her matches that just make her a performer who always adds something to a show regardless of who she's facing and where it is on the card Quote

Must have been a Mic issue, i was sitting next to the Stage, Crowd were loud up until the Main event, things got a bit quieter and a few Might have been burning out Due to the ROH matches starting at 5:30, Dynamite taping finished around 9:20PM. Collision Tapings didn't finish till 11:30PM! That's 6 Hours if you got there early. A lot of people left early I noticed. I don't think they thought it through that the Last trains were are 11:30/12:00. Collison crowd were hot but the arena Started emptying half way through Collison. The guy Infront of me missed the Whole Dynamite and Turned up on time for Collison. I was gutted the Programmes Sold Out so Early, if anyone is attending Forbidden Door and can Pick me up A Programme I'll PayPal them the Money and add and extra £10.00. There's none going on eBay and can't source one, As a Collector of Wrestling Programmes i was really disappointed on the Lack of Stock they Brought. Quote

britboy_93 Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 As for the show at the Hydro in Glasgow i Forgot to mention the Big Bald AEW Security Guard guy with the Beard was walking past me whilst i was at the Bar and I shouted "Doc Sampson" Mistakenly as I'd had a few Beers and he said he gets the same thing from everyone in the States and told me "I'm Dave nice to meet you", I gestured back "I'm Dave Also" as i am, super down to earth cool guy. Tony Schiavone was also walking around the stands taking photos with fans, gutted i never had my WCW tour Programme and Nitro ticket from 2000 to get his Autograph. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 23, 2025 Author Paid Members Posted August 23, 2025 (edited) Very much enjoyed reading @JLM's real world wrestler sightings. It is bonkers how big these people are. Even during his skinny rat boy Dean Ambrose era I was surprised by how big he looked in the flesh. When I saw Penta and Fenix at a merch table I was shocked by how fucking hench they were. On the complete opposite end of things, you can tell the huge difference between the top international guys and the BritWres shit arses. Useless phony MMA wrestler Mark Haskins looks like an angry toddler outside the ring and "hardcore legend" Jimmy Havoc looks like he can't fight his way out of a paper bag.
