We’ve had a hot sauce thread, a chocolate thread, a crisp thread and a snack thread…but no cheese thread. I feel like it’s about time that changed, so here it is.

Some of my favourites…

Wigmore

This is utterly heavenly. It’s a sheep’s milk cheese - basically a very, very creamy Brie. It’s utterly delightful and I couldn’t recommend it enough. If you don’t like Brie, you might enjoy this instead - it’s far milder. If you do like Brie, you may also like this as it’s pretty different.

Cashel Blue

A really tasty blue cheese that packs a punch without the bitter aftertaste you sometimes get with blues. I first had this at Cail Bruich, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Glasgow, where they serve it on an apple tart. It’s a perfect flavour combo - if you’re a fan of blue cheeses, or if you’d like a more accessible blue, I’d recommend this.

Bradan is Gruth

braden.jpgA bit of a different one, made by Connage Dairy near Inverness. It’s a blend of peat-smoked salmon and crowdie (a very mild, creamy Scottish cheese - the closest comparison would be cottage cheese, but it’s far from exact) - and it’s absolutely divine. I’d highly recommend this.

I had a load of Garstang Chilli Cheese from Home Bargains yesterday and let me tell you dear reader, if you thought it was spicy on the way in it’s lavafied on the way out*. Tasty cheap cheese though.

*For future reference we didn’t get past the first page before someone tried to make it another shitting thread.

Blacksticks, Blacksticks and Blacksticks.  Love the stuff, I'm just after having a warm Greggs mince pie with a big hidden chunk of blacksticks melted under the lid and i think i need to stay sitting down for a while as it got me a bit excited. it's just top notch cheese. There's many other  cheeses I love but if i could only eat one then Blacksticks is the one.

There was but it was put out to pasteur.

I like a good gruyere these days.

Ah, well - glad to be the one to bring it back.

Aldi sells a fantastic Gruyère. Aldi sells fantastic cheese in general, come to think of it - especially at Christmas time.

Cheese is wonderful stuff. One of my recent favourites was brought over by a friend who'd been to the Netherlands - a big wedge of something called Reypenaer. Very nutty and sweet with a deeper flavour of salt, but richer than a gruyère.

Sadly, very expensive to get hold of here.

You can tell it’s been a long day at work because I spent a good few seconds thinking “why is he specifying sheep’s cheese, it all comes from sheep”.

I don't even suspect it's all that special, but this with a nice glass of red is superb for me.

Snowdonia cheeses are excellent in general. Black Bomber is definitely a highlight, but their other ones with flavours like chive, truffle, or cumin, etc. are all delicious too.

See this is where I fall down. I'll have all the cheese and food sorted, then Christmas Eve I'll say to the kids "shall we walk to the village and get a drink?" and before you know it I'm in the farm/fruit and veg shop, I've spun around and spent £50 on cheese and crisps.

My favourite cheese is cheese. They're all good. I got the cheese advent calendar again. It's always good. Needs more mexicana, but the aged red leicester is always a decent one as well.

I have fond memories of enjoying blacksticks cheese with my gran. She would pick up some amazing crackers as well.
