My dad played support for Black Lace once at the Embassy Theatre at Skegness. We were forced to go. I loved a day out in Skegness as a kid, and that's how it was sold to me. I was less enthusiastic to watch the band my dad was in, a magician, Kathy Kirby and Black Lace. Even as a child I pushed no pineapples and did no conga. Grumpy little fucker even then.

They usually turn up alongside the Lancashire Hotpots at their big Christmas gig at Manchester Academy.

An update to my earlier post. I was talking to my mum earlier about the above post to make sure I had remembered it correctly. Turns out I had not remembered a couple of details.

The magician had got my mum up on the stage to assist with a card trick. She had to hold the card in front of her stomach. The Usual flim flammerry occurred before the magician pointed at the card and said "There's something there that wasn't there before" to which my mum replied "Is it twins now instead of just one baby as I'm 5 months pregnant already" which made the audience laugh a lot but ruined the trick.

Also when Kathy Kirby turned up for the sound check she was fairly well refreshed and didn't find it amusing that I tried to play with the fur stole she'd thrown on the seat with her coat by going "Pusspusspusspusspuss" and stroking it like a cat as she was singing.

His verse on Ice T's original '99 Problems' is one of the most horrendously misogynistic raps I've heard. Absolute ambrosia to 13yr old me. RIP

That's sad. I don't think people realise just how influential, innovative and controversial 2 Live Crew were.

It was a pornographic crime to sell their album at one point, with shop owners arrested for doing so, and they themselves were detained for performing the song live.

They're often left out of the wider history of hip hop, and the controversy of the 80s always gets centred on Ice T, NWA etc, but 2 Live Crew were a massive part of rap escaping the cities and into the white teen suburbs which is when the shit hit thefan.

He's also responsible for one of the things that I would laugh and laugh at as a teen as in a documentary (Channel 4s The Hip Hop Years) he says something that sounds like "damn, it pinged off the gonchos, knowwhatimsaying?" which we would quote over and over, despite having zero clue what he was on about.

Me love you long time. RIP.

William Russell, leading man actor and companion to William Hartnell in the early days of Dr Who.

Later, he took centre stage in one of Coronation Street's most memorable story lines.

Just 5 months short of his 100th birthday.

This has made me feel incredibly sad.

Ian Chesterton has gone? Noooooooooo

One of the best companions. Still, nearly a century is not to be sniffed at. RIP.

Heck of an innings. His arc as "Chesterfield " and the whole journey his character goes on is wonderful. Sad day for the Whoniverse.

Blame Disney/Sony.

Blame Russell Davies if anything, he’s always wanted an expanded universe outside of the main show (hence we had Torchwood and Sarah Jane, then Class which came after he left but was already in the works before that). We’re getting spinoffs coming again (heavily rumoured but likely a lock) so that was probably part of the sell to Disney/BBC in them handing it over to his production company.
