Merzbow Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Okada just seems like a lad slowly winding things down after breaking his body as the top guy for so many years, I'd rather see him go out pissing about with his funny little American mates then do a Tanahashi and go out there trying to be the same guy but with knees broken down into paste. Guest Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I remember reading someone (possibly on here) saying that Okada's biggest problem is that he was a comedy job guy living in the body of the best wrestler in the world. I think that booking's being born out a bit. Rather that him jumping in as a main eventer, he's just playing midcard comedian and loving it. I'd have been rushing him to the top of the card to make sure I get the best use of him, but screw it, he's 37, not ancient in wrestling terms, and he can credibly main event whenever. Quote
Chili Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I've always enjoyed Karen Jarrett but until Jeff and the lads popped in, this was RJ City doing that 'he can work a good match with a broomstick' phrase as an interview. At least with the Ruby Soho one, she was so annoyed it was genuinely funny. Quote

Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 25, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 25, 2024 Better then the usual log fire, just 24 hours of Hangman and Swerves Childhood home burning Quote
Paid Members Weezenal Posted December 25, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 25, 2024 6th year? I’ve no concept of time but I only thought AEW was 3 years old. Time flies when you’re having f… getting old. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 25, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 25, 2024 Beautiful. Wholesome. The photographer of this image was immediately strangled with a neon green cable. He was never seen again. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 Absolutely cracking night of Continental Classic action that. All 5 CC matches were belters. Ricochet has somehow become one of the most enjoyable guys to watch on the roster. This new heel character should be the making of him. I loved the Darby Allin/Komander bit of business. Logical yet unique bit of booking with Darby Allin costing Claudio without even showing up. Wouldn't mind Darby/Claudio 3 at Worlds End with Darby getting the win at last. The Death Rider storyline hasn't been the big deal it looked like it would be when it started but I have enjoyed the past few weeks of Hangman/Switchblade/OC having to get on the same page and they had a good go-home segment here. My dream of them doing a 3 year storyline of Daniel Garcia going from CC loser to bridesmaid to winner is still on track. He's going to win it next year, mark my words. AEW has had a very dodgy 2024 with various ups and downs but for me they've quietly turned the corner the past month. The shows have had a clear focus with (mostly) logical booking. Worlds End was a bit of a stinker last year so hopefully they can go out on a high this time. They've done a good job of building up some of the younger guys too - the fact this show headlined with Garcia vs Fletcher and it didn't look out of place at all is a testament to that when they don't try to overcomplicate shit, they can get it right. Paid Members Supremo Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 Ricochet complaining to the ref about hair pulling, with the ref responding, “you have no hair.” Best thing he’s ever done. Quote
Merzbow Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 It's never a good time to retweet a sex trafficker as part of your gimmick but Rico doing it now of all times? Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 26, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) Dynamite was another really good show. Great action. Great crowd. Great venue. One of the good things about Tony Khan is that he loves his traditions, so hopefully we get a Hammerstein residency every Christmas going forward. It’s been a triumph. Perfect setting for the last few fixtures of the Continental Classic. Remember when New York was one of the, “Bizzaro World,” cities, who’d hijack and antagonise everything? They’re now chanting, “she’s a rookie!” during Toni Storm matches. How far we’ve come. This Toni Storm thing rules. That perfect pitch that encourages the crowd to play along. The day she gets a big knock on the head and starts showing signs of Timelessness is going to be amazing. Has Okada reached the heights of New Japan thus far? No. Not even in this G1-style tournament. But is he the funniest man in the business? Unquestionably. This was brilliant. Literally you and your mates in school, trying to make each other laugh in Double Maths. Just got a little itch on my face, sir. Can’t give me a detention for that!
