On 9/10/2023 at 11:25 PM, ultimo the great said:

Missed this match 0-2 to Wales

Spot on! That late second goal for Wales actually cost me 2 points, but I was watching on S4C and they did deserve it.

And yes, sorry for the delay Pete. Will try to get these up a bit sooner in future weeks now that top-flight club football is back. International rounds used to be a chance to fill your boots, but it was more of a struggle this time as nobody made it into double figures. Despite the even spread of scores, there was only one draw in the opening set of FPL Cup fixtures. The next matchday for that will fall in mid-October.

As you can see from the table, seph got a much-needed boost as the weekly best performer, keeping him within touching distance of those directly above him. At the other end, ultimo still leads by 10 but Rory overtakes Shy Dad by the narrowest possible margin in the only bit of movement this time out. The tie for 7th place has just about been broken too. The 'wildcard' fixture was randomly selected as match #9, for which nobody got the exact scoreline but four participants did correctly think Watford would win at Charlton in the women's second tier to claim a bonus point apiece.

Elsewhere, it was slim pickings really. Only victories for Denmark, Greece and Holland were generally picked consistently. Score draws in Poland, Kosovo and North Macedonia produced a mixed bag of guesses alongside disappointing reverses for Norn Iron's men and Saints' ladies. Had you all forgotten that Italy actually lost at home to the Macedonians in a World Cup qualifying play-off not so long ago? I wouldn't have included it on the card if I'd thought it'd be a nailed-on away win.

Anyway, new set of 10 coming up lickety-split at the top of the thread, including a D2D...

The results went into the opening post on Sunday night and the table was figured out soon after that. It was an unusual week as I got my D2D bet wrong yet was top scorer anyway. Unwisely, ultimo was the only one not to disagree with me which means he was outright worst performer, so his lead is now cut to just 5 points. The 'wildcard' fixture was randomly selected after all scores were in as match #3, Brighton's win at Old Trafford, which was more of an imposing fortress during many of our formative years.

The two Dads were the only ones to at least get the right result to claim a bonus point each, if not the exact scoreline. (And yes, I did leave Pascal Groß on the bench in the Fantasy League. Grr.) A lot of movement in both halves of the standings this time, but it's still the usual early-season churn. Also it's not that surprising after a round where the average haul was in double figures.

Why was that then? Well, victories for Villa, Fulham, Spurs, Man City, Arsenal and Dortmund all proved fruitful at least for one-pointers, with stalemates at Dean Court (the first of the EPL campaign) and at the Yankee Stadium (not a great advert for the game if any baseball fans turned up mistake) being the only other outcomes to catch most people out.

Right, don't think there's anything more to mention other than that the next card will be up in the initial post in just a tick.
