For a bit of context, the record for the longest swim in Drakes Passage is about 5.5km. Out of 1000km. Its a stretch of sea so dangerous that the shipping industry dug a big canal through Panama to avoid going there. 

He'll just end up drowning when he gets hit by that first 40ft wave.

Bit dull after Africa. Was hoping for straight line mission to the moon, or geezer walks to north pole with nowt but four cans of lager and a rotisserie chicken.

New Zealand seems to be much harder terrain, but much less interesting to watch (partly the lack of variety/cultural unpredictability, partly worse video production). I tapped out after four minutes of the latest episode when it became obvious it was not about the running or the experience, but just an extended (paid content) ad for the New Zealand tourist board. The comment section is pretty brutal.

I read the book, which was decent enough despite the ghostwriting being pretty obvious (a potted history of colonialism and civil war in an African country does not feel authentic to his voice.) There's quite a bit of background (was a dick, became an alcoholic loser, started running and got a purpose) but it's not quite as in-depth on Africa as you'd get from having watched the videos. Main insight is being a lot more open about the relationship with the support crew including the times they'd severely fall out, plus him effectively sacking a couple of them for financial reasons at some stages.
