The General Politics Thread v2.0 (AKA the "Labour are Cunts" thread)

It's becoming a bit of a farce at this point. This is going to be a tough coconut for some within Labour to swallow but Starmers grim march past the centre ground and towards christ knows where continues. I can understand why he'd like the optics of "if Elphicke can, you can too" but the local elections highlighted that it would be sensible to offer younger progressives something. If he genuinely believes he can't do that without becoming repellant to centrists then he's really no business being involved in frontline politics with the Labour Party.

If I was advising Sunak I'd tell him it's only going to get progressively worse. Call it now before Starmer dreams up something that might actually appeal to his base.

It would really suck for Paul Mason if he finally manages to secure a Labour candidacy in a seat Labour have won at every election since the 1930s only to lose. Would be an ideal pick for Labour though. The race in Islington North will be one of the most high profile, heavily scrutinised in the country. You don't want to put a green candidate in there that can't walk and talk at the same time, but it's an outside bet so not every prospective capable candidate will fancy being parachute dropped into North London. He's also somebody left leaning Labour voters wouldnt need to hold their nose to support either.

It won't necessarily be a slam dunk for Labour, though. Corbyn is known to be a very good constituency MP, and that, alongside the popularity he gained as Labour leader, not to mention a lot of the anger from people at the Labour party for how he was treated and the direction Keir Starmer's taken the party since, could all work in his favour.

Not to mention the constituency Labour Party almost unanimously wanted Corbyn as their Labour candidate. I know that doesn’t track to voters but his exemplary record as a constituency MP, as you said, holds him in excellent stead.

No place for Corbyn or Abbot in Starmers Labour, but there is for Elphicke and Poulter. Says it all.
