People like Jack Walker are romanticised because he was a rich old (white) fella supporting his team financially and that’s fine but it’s typically little Britain for us all to turn around and vilify the foreigns doing it. I doubt the aforementioned hedge fund wankers and co have much cleaner hands.

Jack Walker was born in Blackburn and had been a life long Rovers fan. Even after he died he left Rovers in his will to be run by a Trust.

That is quite abit different than random Saudi billionaire buys whoever is up for sale so he can boast to his mates about his new toy. Or American business hedge fund guys doing dodgy deals swamping teams in debt.

Of course it is, from a moral stand point. It’s still people putting money in that the club doesn’t have or generate to artificially inflate a clubs standing. Which is fine. I just don’t think football fans really care about sports washing or where the money comes from until it’s someone else’s club benefiting.

There is also one where you have to guess whole teams, https://missing11.com/#, similar to when SkySports.com had Missing Men (RIP) every day.

Infinitely better than Wordle.

Spoiler

Just did the Brazil first XI VS England from 2017 in 13 guesses. Got 9 of the starters on first attempt, with Casemiro and Miranda on second attempts.

Rovers and Walker were the villains at the time. "You lot stole the league" every Rovers fan heard that a million times at the time. We got the "where were you when you were shit" chanted at us by every other team in the league for two decades following the title win. TBH I don't think Jack Walker is particularly romanticised now outside our fanbase. More other teams realising it can be far worse with whole sports washing countries and criminal Russian obigarchs taking over teams since.

I don't think its just a British fans hate all foreign owners thing either. Everyone seems to respect and like Leicesters owners and hate West Hams porn barons for example.

It’s probably more a case of Walker only spending about 30 million. Imagine buying the league for that now!

Living in Manchester I hear a fair few Utd fans complain about City’s wealth but in the next breath supporting Salford City. Mind you, they’re the sort who wear their yellow and green scarf with their brand new home shirt.

Blackburn a top ten Premiership team at the time were sold to Venkys for £23 million a decade ago. That is the equivalent of half a Fred lol.

We picked a bad time to sell up before all the money flooded in.

They don't even take chickens to the matches anymore. That venky's deal and getting rid of Big Fat Sam was a disaster. Apart from that dreadful advert with David Dunn loving that chicken.

Somebody was in a bit of a rush updating the scores on the BBC Sports website this afternoon.
