Root's catch today was spectacular. I also felt a bit sorry for Leach. I didn't think he bowled badly at all but went at 5 an over.

I watched the end of the Bangladesh vs West Indies match, incredible chase, that. Test cricket has been ridiculously good the last couple of years, big chases and unexpected results. Wouldn't be surprised if Kyle Mayers was a one hit wonder, but that's some debut.

I think Gooch is our best player of spin ever, although Root isn't far behind - both have excellent records against spin, although it can be argued that Root has played against stronger India/Pakistan/Sri Lankan sides.

Warne always said that Gooch was the one Englishman he struggled against - it blows my mind the sheer amount of runs Gooch scored, despite essentially missing 6 years of Test Cricket due to selectors binning him off at the start of his career then his involvement in the Rebel Tour.

His record in his later years is incredible - the amount of Test runs he scored once he past 30 is nuts.

I'll never tired of South Africa choking in matches. They lost 7 for 33 today against Pakistan. Truly the gift that keeps giving.

Superb win by England this morning. Anderson continues to be just a supreme bowler in any conditions. That spell of 3-7 was controlled reverse swing at it's best. 

From an umpiring point of view it was nice to see the umpires get the dead ball situation wrong. The ball was dead at the moment the bail came off from Archer to Ishant. They should have bowled another ball. They didnt. That is the sort of thing players will sulk about on a Saturday if an umpire gets it wrong, yet 3 international umpires got it wrong today.

It's a measure of how good Anderson is and how he seems to get better that nobody is talking about him retiring. They're managing his workload superbly too. That said, I do think the Ashes might be his last series.

That stat about Anderson taking over 350 wkts at an average of 23 since turning 30 is insane. 

I can see him playing 2 or 3 Ashes tests in the winter due to the way his workload is being managed as Devon said (Jimmy, Broady, Wood, Archer and Stokes down under- phwoar) and then being given a heros send off the following summer after the series' against NZ and SA that are planned.

A 5-fer at Trent Bridge to sign off would be special.

Saw someone on Twitter moaning that Jofra Archer bowled like Angus Fraser in the last test. What's wrong with that?

Point taken though. If we wanted someone bowling 82mph, why not pick Broad, who would do that better?

They seem very keen not to play Broad and Anderson in the same Test team. 

There is nothing wrong with bowling like Fraser when the situation demands. You wouldn't want Archer to bowl like Fraser at the Gabba. It is much better that he doesn't kill himself trying to bowl 90mph + when it isn't needed.

That was more like the England we know and love. Proper 90s stuff, that, not having the slightest clue how to play spin and picking entirely the wrong team. India should play 5 spinners in the last test.
