The thing that really threw me is that Carlito is younger than AJ Styles and only two years older than Finn Balor, and 3 years older than Damian Priest. In my head Carlito is the oldest full timer on the roster. Â
MachoLibre
Are people seriously suggesting Carlito should lose his job over this? Blimey. There's other ways of punishing and disciplining you know? If it's suggested as a company optics thing, I'm not sure that course of action would come across particularly well either.

I don't really have an opinion either way on what they should do, as I have a nagging feeling we don't know the full story, but losing his job would only be remarkable because it's not what you'd expect WWE to do. On any other live entertainment show, if someone went off script and made a casually racist remark, they'd be gone before the end of the show. Whether it was The One Show, or a football commentator, or Loose Women or whatever, they'd be gone. Our bar is just a lot lower for what we expect of wrestling. DavidB6937
I mean the fact that it's televised doesn't help. At least if you make a stupid remark like that in the office or something then chances are a few people hear it and that's that. But it could easily be brought up again by a news outlet or something, especially if someone internally raises an official complaint about it. It's not something you want to be seen as not taking seriously.

The backstage segments are pre-taped! They could have just done it again and said "no racism this time please Carlito" but they aired it so either it was a scripted line or everyone thought it was fine to keep in. I don't know enough to know whether this is true or not, though I'd guess it has to be partially false (maybe just for select segments they're live) otherwise someone would be reporting it was a pre-taped. If it was pre-taped, I'd be furious if I was Carlito (regardless of whether he riffed it or not) as he's being thrown to the wolves. https://talksport.com/wrestling/2189871/wwe-edit-tv-footage-controversial-off-script-line/
Paid Members Supremo Posted October 23 Paid Members Share Posted October 23 (edited) I’m in no way excusing anyone, but are all backstage segments pre-taped? I remember that one where Matt Riddle completely forgot his line with Asuka and just laughed himself out of shot. There’s no way they would have aired that if it was pre-taped. Carlito’s fucked either way, of course. If I was to guess, it was probably scripted or approved after a pre-tape, and no-one saw issue with it until the backlash happened, at which point it’s easier to just point the finger at the talent. Hunter doesn’t see race, anyway. He can’t be to blame. Edited October 23 by Supremo

Bypasses the writers room, no time to think about it, no group of people to have a decent discussion about it; just a couple of idiots around a monitor working out whether it was funny or not. Probably Paul who makes the call in that case, and that really would check out. As I said before, to me you can just hear Triple H deliver that line. It's the most DX 2.0 shit ever. Paid Members Supremo Posted October 23 Paid Members Share Posted October 23 Double checking if your taped segment is bit racist and the producers are fucking Road Dogg and Michael Hayes.

That’s why you get slip ups every so often. Edited October 23 by FUM

Formal requests to give evidence to the authorities, I imagine.
The Gaffer
They're in an era where almost every show has a backstage segment that moves in a one-shot out into the live arena. I've not seen and don't plan to watch the segment but it's definitely not outside the realm of possibility that it went out live.
